In Luke 1:48, the Blessed Virgin Mary states: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed."

A question for Christians who take the Bible literally:

Do you call Mary "blessed" as commanded by Holy Scripture? If no, why?

Thank you for your answer.

Do I add the title of "Blesssed" to her name when I speak of this woman? No.

That's not what this verse is about and there is certainly no command here from this woman to me or to anyone else.

(DRB)
Luk 1:46 And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord.
Luk 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Luk 1:48 Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Luk 1:49 Because he that is mighty hath done great things to me: and holy is his name.

Notice that Mary refers to God in reverent tones; she is NOT His mother, she is the mother of Jesus the man.

She is giving reverence to God in this passage, stating that we will consider her to have been blessed my God to carry His child. She was blessed, no question about it.

She is not making a claim to a title.

She was blessed to be chosen to carry the Christ child and to raise Him up as a child and into manhood. That does not make her special or confer on her any title such as you used above or as the "Mother of God". God doesn't have a mother; God created Mary, not the other way around.

I have no doubts that Mary, if she were able to see what is going on, would be sickened by the false idol status that some religions have placed her into; Mary KNEW that God is God and that ONLY God is worthy of praise!

Mary was a sinner just like the rest of us, lived as a sinner, died as a sinner, and is buried in the ground somewhere on this earth, just like we will be. As she stated in the verse above, "And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour", she recognised that she needed saving, just like the rest of us.

I acknowledge that Mary was blessed by God to be the vessel through whom He would send his Son. But I don't go beyond that because Jesus said:

Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

After Our Lord, there is no one who is more blessed than she is. She is blessed because she was chosen by God and given the fullness of grace. She is ever-virgin, ever-holy, ever-blessed. She is assumed into Heaven, body and soul, and intercedes for us. She is immaculate. She is the Mother of Our Saviour and Lord. Yes, I call her blessed, because she is infinitely so.

Catholics have faith that Mary might desire to be honored not worshiped. Any Catholic worshiping Mary would not comprehend Catholicism! The Hail Mary is a prayer that in simple terms describes how the Lord chosen her to mom the Son. The latter area soliciting for her to 'pray for our sins' is by using the fact she grew to become into assumed into heaven (as in, did not die) so she might desire to be close with God. truthfully, Catholics pray by the lifeless, to not the lifeless. anybody who truthfully worships Mary isn't Catholic... playstation Catholics additionally call the Church 'mom' or the 'bride of Christ'.

I call her " Blessed ", but anyone who is a vessel of God & does the work of God is also blessed, including Kahlil Gibran, Mohandas K. Gandhi ( Mahatma ), Martin Luther King & Mother Teresa.

Your interpreting it wrong, only a idiot would read what they ay completly literally. Thats like reading shakespearian, completly literally. What she is saying in modern term lnaguage is that "From Now on people will say that I am very fortunate" thats it. O yea, and pulling out one verse of the Bible teaches you less then it does if you read the whole chapter or chapters. Good Luck
