I know, in many religions, you're not supposed to (no idolatry, no graven images, etc), because any representation would be less than the glorious whole (and would thus be an untruth), so please don't bother telling me all that. I know.
I'm curious, from a philosophical/psychological standpoint, how various people in various places and various situations think of God (whoever their god may be) when they think of him, her, or it.
Do you picture him as a person? Do you think of it as an object? Do you imagine a force? A field?
When praying, do you pray toward something in particular? A direction? A mental picture of an entity?
And, by the way: Please don't tell me to read the Bible. I have. And please don't tell me I'm going to burn in hell for questioning God or committing idolatry or whatever. I haven't indicated anywhere in this question my personal beliefs, so you don't know yet if I'm Christian, Hindu, buddhist, Muslim, or what. The question is about you.

The only thing I can think of is Christian paintings, etc, the old man with the flowing beard and hair. Funny how he looks like Zues.
There's obviously some leniency about the images rule. Christians often pray under the crucifix or statues of Mary.

A Glory a light, Glorious as you have never seen neither you will ever see. In the Paradise when the Blessed will be allowed to see God they will keep looking with out a blink for thousands and thousands of years. Above all God is like sea and human mind is just like a small pot now you can’t accommodate the whole sea in the small pot.

Psychologically we are told that our father image is often how we will mentally project our God image to be - that may be true as many people I work with in building their relationship with the Lord from various states of depression, often find themselves talking about the type of father they have and placing these fears or adorations into what they perceive of God. For me, personally, however, I cannot envision God as hard as I may try - I can envision a heavenly throne, many stairs leading to a throne, brightness all around, a symphony of hushed and beautiful praises, I can envision Jesus as a Jewish man sitting at the right hand of where God would sit upon the throne, but I have never been able to fill the throne with anything tangible. God has always been beyond my senses. Even on my sickest days and I know that I am laying in the arms of God for rest and restoration of my bodies ailments, they are strong arms, they are gentle, they are safe - but these are my Daddy's arms as well - and now my husband's arms - if I could choose what I would want God to be like and me be like - I would want him to have a head full of gray hair and a long beard and I would want to be a toddler snuggled across his shoulder as he gently holds me secure, whispers comfort to me, and places his other hand across my back, that always hurts so much - as I know he would bring it the relief from pain that I desire. And he would just carry me around as he goes about his other business - my name means God's Princess and that's exactly how I would feel. So uniquely special. It's how I feel even now - I wish I had words to describe him more eloquently as He is worthy of more than mortal tongue can express. Thank you for letting me try.

I am a Christian and this is a "not so easy" question. I suppose I think of Him as a spirit, yet I do have a picture in my head of a very large, powerful being whose bright face and broad shoulders blot out all other sights. I do think of Him in human form because of my finite knowledge. I thank Him that one sweet day, all will be revealed, and I will dwell with Him for eternity. God bless!

For me God is whatever i am feeling. If i'm lonely i mold him the from of an imaginary friend/family member. (generally i see him as a person with no facial features) If i'm happy it could be anything from the clouds, to animals, just anything my mind thinks of.
I don't really give it terribly much thought cos to me it doesn't matter what God looks like, i know to some it helps imagining something and for me too, but generally it doesn't bother me.

No. The best I come up with the Santa bringing goodies at X-mass. I do know that it is a myth, but I do know how Santa looks accordingly to the myth.
