I am trying to get a law passed that will treat the human problem. Those people who get some breeds because they look cool or are bad looking. Any large breed needs to be trained and handle with the knowledge that they can do a lot of damage. People also need to be taught that some breeds like pi bulls and rotts are not for everyone. If you are a first time owner or have only owned small breeds then you need to learn what these smart strong dogs need in the way of training handling. Where are you going to keep it. They can jump over a 6' fence. Keeping them chained all the time can make them aggressive. Do you have small children if so teach them how to act around the dog and NEVER leave them alone with it or any other large breed dog. Never leave a sleeping child in the same room as the dog, and breed. Know you may need professional help with training. Also know that there is the idea that all pits and rotts will attack for no reason. If you find out of dog fighting turn them in and keep making noise tell something is done about it. Get laws past to put them in jail for a long time. If you know a news report is wrong about a breed of dog make it known that the they need to correct what was said. It is more than just a breed having a bad rep. It is going to take a lot of work to stop it

I tell people, in less than 1% of the time, you get a bad dog. The other 99% +, it's stupid and irresponsible owners. I've met pit bulls that were sweeties (most times, actually... they seem to like me), and I've met golden retrievers who are a## holes. It's not because of the dog, it's how their raised.
Take for instance, the rottie... most people think they're mean, stare at you because they're waiting to jump you. What most people don't know... the majority of rotties will "adopt" a stuffed animal, and treat it like their own child. Eyes missing, and stuffing falling out, and still they love them... not so different from human children, huh?
Education and understanding are the most important tools we can use to stop breed bans. If you know your breeds, you will most likely never get a dog that itn't right for you. This is also why labs and retrievers are the most popular dogs in north america... generally good natured and loving no matter how they're treated.

I educate people about dogs. I introduce them to Diamond my pittie and talk about how it only 1% of the dogs that cause the problems. I vote. I write legislators. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
