Not only do I think that's impossible, even with surgery, it's not healthy. Healthy weight loss is considered a pound a week. But don't let that scare you off. Keep up with your exercising, and watch what you eat. Just think, in a few months when your weight loss becomes noticable, the kids at school will notice, too.

Sigh... Look, if you're not ready to diet you'll just gain the weight back anyway. Whatever you're doing is not working, obviously. You have to be ready to commit yourself to be healthy for life. I have no idea if you could lose 30-40 pounds in 6 weeks because I don't know your starting weight. If you're 280 lbs, sure, you could probably do it. But if you're 190... eh...
Bottom line: no junk food. no cookies, candy, chips, soda, ice cream. no fast food. don't even try to get those salads at wendy's or mcdonald's. make your own at home. count your calories. no white carbs (white bread, white pasta, white rice, etc...) only whole grains. NO lucky charms. Try kashi go lean with skim milk. Eat a ton of fruit and veggies. Ideally, 9-10 servings a day, 5-6 being veggies. only lean proteins (think skinless chicken, turkey, fish).
Learn about calories, do you know how to read a nutrition label? That helped me so much when I was in high school. I learned about calories, started reading about it and I lost 40 lbs in 3 months, I've been 125 lbs at 5'7" since then (8 years now). What I did then was this diet I read in my mom's magazine, it was easy... eat no more than 20 grams of fat a day, and eat no less than 20 grams of fiber a day. That's it.
And Janet Jackson just lost 60 lbs in 4 months by eating:
bkfst: 6 egg whites, 1/3 cup of oatmeal
lunch: 4 oz of chicken breast (skinless, nothing fried), organic mixed salad (no dressing)
afternoon snack: 3 oz of grilled shrimp, 1 c. of mixed veggies
dinner: 4 oz of filet mignon, 15 grilled asparagus spears.
Exciting, I know.
You're going to need to exercise more. Do an hour of walking a day. Ab workouts will create muscle, but it won't burn any fat off, you need cardio for that. Ride your bike, rollerblade, anything. Actually, get Tae Bo, that burns a ton of calories. To keep your butt, you're going to have to do squats and lunges. Get a fitness magazine (like Fitness, Shape, or Oxygen) for workout ideas.
Dieting is hard but you're going to have to make a choice between looking good and eating that donut. What's more worth it to you? Nothing tastes as good as looking good feels.
hth!!

You really want to know.... Don't eat! you will lose about 10 pounds in 3 days. other wise I would say that it is virtually impossible to lose that much weight in that short amount of time unless you get plastic surgery or something. Or just change your diet, keep a photo of your self that you don't like with you where ever you go to remind you that you don't like the way that you look so that it will motivate you to work out more or eat healthy foods.

30 to 40 pounds in 6 weeks is very ambitious. How long did it take you to put the weight on? I bet not 6 weeks, so set yourself realistic goals.
In the meantime, and at our age, you can ditch the junk food, drink lots of water and work on more fitness, sounds like you are a bit negative about the stuff that would be useful to achieve what you want: floor exercise like pilates, which you can do at home, sit ups, thigh exercise, etc...

This is not dumb,in fact it's the most sensible thing you'll hear on this site.
I have heard of a new tecnique that is being trialled in the usa.
It has had great success so far with obese people & I as an Australian think that all americans should try this treatment.
It's called "amputation",they cutoff your legs or arms causing a dramatic weight lose.
U should try it as if your not happy with the treatment they give u the parts back that were cutoff !!

You're way too ambitious to loose that much in 6 weeks. If you understand how your body works you can diet successfully.
I have lost around 60 lbs in 6 months and I will tell you what not to eat. The first myth we have been told is that fat is bad. Sugar and carbohydrate are the big nasties. In fact, reduced fat food that has had some of the fat removed is actually more fattening than the regular food because the removed fat in most cases has been replaced with carbs! This is the main reason why you must absolutely stay away from ALL processed food with no exception. Eat fresh and natural. You must have 3 meals a day and get into a routine so your body knows when to expect food. Your body is capable of doing exquisite things to avoid weight loss if it thinks it’s going to get starved, so you must feed it and regularly.
The other thing you must do is keep your insulin as low as possible by getting sugar and carbs in your diet as close to zero as you can and not having ANYTHING between meals except water. Also having at least 5 hours between one meal and another. The last meal of the day must be no later than 9pm. Insulin is a hormone that will absolutely block fat and protein burning in your body and force it to burn sugar, that's how it works. You will NOT lose weight with your blood stream flooded with insulin, even with exercise. It’s impossible. You must have at least 8 glasses of water a day in order for your liver and kidneys to excrete the fat from your body this is crucial.
Now, what you must stay away from and I mean, non at all. Bread, pasta, rice, pastry, flour of any kind, sugar, potato, onion, parsnip, sweet potato, pumpkin, beetroot, carrots, peas, beans, beer, sweet wine, spirits, spreads like butter and margarine and be very careful of sauces and condiments. Fruit and milk should be taken very, very sparingly because they are fattening. Fruit is full of sugar too, only a very small amount. Avoid all processed food including diet soda it will stimulate insulin. 3 cups of black tea or coffee WITH meals a day is OK. Use Stevia for a sweetener.
OK, if you are still with me, what can you eat? In a nutshell you replace the carbs you have removed with protein and green leafy vegetables. Do not mix protein only 1 per meal. This is what you can eat. Lean meat, poultry, fish, cheese, yoghurt and eggs are your permitted proteins. Cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, capsicum, mushroom, celery, zucchini and a small amount of tomato. You can have unlimited amounts of lettuce and cucumber but ONLY at meal times. You can use balsamic vinegar as a dressing; mustard is ok too but only made from the powder. Shop bought is full of sugar! Curry powder in cooking can be used as well. One tablespoon of olive oil is ok per day, in cooking and as a dressing. Garlic is OK but not shop bought; you guessed it, full of sugar. Use fresh.
I will GUARANTEE if you stick to this you will loose heaps of weight, fast. I know it's not easy and you need the support of your family too.
Just another couple of things I forgot. NO breakfast cereal and avoid really heavy exercise you will just burn glycogen in your muscles, not fat and it will just make you sore and tired. You need prolonged gentle exercise to burn fat like walking. You don't need to exercise at all on this diet as long as you're moving about. Last but not least read food labels and look at the ingredients. Avoid foods like the plague with more than 5 grams of carbohydrate per 100 grams. If you like a drink, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (very dry and low in carbs) with a little soda water is OK with meals.
Good Luck. Jules, lecturer. Australia.
