Satan getting jealous about the creation of Adam and Eve; eavesdropping their conversation; his seduction of them; their eating the fruit; their being filled with a sense of shame and hiding themselves from God; and God finding them and banishing them from the Garden of Eden-- are good materials for a detective story. The story of Jesus birth and the machinations of the king to trace him and the adventures of Joseph and Mary to escape from him also read like a detective story.

Luke's gospel was a research paper, does that count?

Lk 1:1 Many people have attempted to write about the things that have taken place among us. 2 Reports of these things were handed down to us. There were people who saw these things for themselves from the beginning and then passed the word on. 3 I myself have carefully looked into everything from the beginning. So it seemed good also to me to write down an orderly report of exactly what happened. I am doing this for you, most excellent Theophilus. 4 I want you to know that the things you have been taught are true.

Here Luke describes his actions like that of a detective. He interviewed the living eyewitnesses in an effort to produce an exact account of things which had happened much earlier.

Actually. . .there is a detective story in the Bible. . .at least for the Hebrew/Old Testament, especially Torah (first five books).

There is the Written Tradition. . .what we have in our Bibles.

There is the Oral Tradition. . .what has passed on by tradition and in various editions of the Jewish Talmud. (Btw, Louis Ginzberg's "Legends of the Jews" is the first published work of its kind to commit these oral traditions in writing and in English!)

Is there a difference?

Consider the story of Cain and Abel. . .the Oral Tradition talks about how Cain repeatedly showed disrespect to G-d by his words and attitude. . .and not just the form of sacrifice he offered. . .and that the "real" conflict between the two of them was over. . .a girl. . .now. . .to my sense. . .that makes sense for guys have been fighting (even killing!) this way since the beginning of time!

Hope this helps.

Probably what the statement above means is that all the moral dilemas that we might conjecture are contained in the Bible in some fashion or another.

There are some great mysteries to decipher however!

First of all, not every story is in the bible.

As for detective story in the bible, ask God?It is after all his/her/its book.

Read about Rahab and how she hid believers. As good as any detective novel.

You should read "the case of the vanishing corpse". The Pharisees tried to find it, but they couldn't. Good book.
