I believe I Have cancer... I will be going to a specialist soon to have this determined (by biopsy) but, i was wondering...
I was having blood drawn every other week for about 3 months, because I insisted something was very wrong with me... Each time, my bloodwork came back absolutely fine.
Can I still have cancer??

... Im not just "getting a biopsy" on my own choice. I have a mole that they were very worried about. Recently, it has started to become tingly, burns, and around the area, my muscles ache
... Im not just "assuming i have a rare cancer and I will automatically die... But, It is possible that it is Melanoma, and Im pretty worried... I have alot of other symptoms, but Im sure they probably have nothing to due with it.

Improbable but not impossible. Certain enzymes exist in the blood when cancer is present. What kind of quack doctor performs a biopsy on a patient at the patients insistance?

Certain cancers are detected by blood work, most are not. One of the first breakthroughs (not related to leukemia) was prostrate cancer. It’s detected by an antigen which means a very special blood test. Even then, it is not a guarantee if you do or do not have cancer.

Cancer is not just cancer as they are all different and have different cure rates. For what it’s worth, most people that think they have cancer do not.

So you can do something constructive during this time of limbo, start getting healthy by checking out anything to boost your immune system. Don’t do anything stupid such as taking twice as much. Just help prepare your body in the even you have to go through chemotherapy.

The formula for a cure is real simple (the way it’s done is what’s complicated)… cancer cells are weaker than your normal cells. Chemotherapy makes all your cells week. The weakest ones die, such as cancer cells. The stronger you are the further they can pull you down to kill the weakest of cells, the cancer.

Chemotherapy is just one solution. Depending on what (if) cancer you have will determine the treatment that may be a combination of things, maybe or maybe not chemotherapy will be included. Some chemotherapy treatments cause you to get sick and lose your hair; some you don’t even have side effects.

My guess is that you don’t have cancer. I’ll be real frank with you… there are a ton of patients that are “certain” they have some major medical problem. Very seldom do they have anything. You will only hear about the ones that have the story of going to the doctor over and over again and eventually one day they find something terrible. The odds are closer to 1% where that happens instead of the 75% that you probably imagine.

Skin cancers rarely are painful.

Bloodwork isn't a reliable indicator of cancer - blood tests can lead to cancer indicators but cannot provide proof (as I understand it) of cancer itself. Only a biopsy can reveal for sure the existance of cancer.

Why do you think you have cancer? Are you exhibiting some kind of symptoms? It can't hurt to have a biopsy if you really think you have precancerous indications, but do you have a real reason to think you have cancer?

It is my sincere hope that you will answer in the negative on this - I guess we'd rather believe that people might be paranoid rather than haunted by an actual medical condition - but if you have a legitimate reason to be concerned, then I hope with all my heart that you are nothing more than overly concerned.

Cancer is detected through imaging, and biopsies. I suppose there might be some forms of cancer that show up in the blood, but generally, no, it won't.

Why are you so worried you have cancer? Are there symptoms? If you've been getting blood drawn that often for that long, then I'm presuming you've been seeing a family doctor about it. I'd think if the Dr. felt there were enough symptoms to suggest cancer, he'd have sent you to a specialist long before now.

I had breast cancer. I now get blood-work every 3 months. There is a cea blood test. It goes up and down. As far as I know I am still cancer free. I also just did not feel right. I work for a doctor. He ran a lot of test. Found out I do not absorb b12. The blood work did not suggest cancer. I found out in a routine mammogram.

yes, cancer does not always show up in your blood. my son's cancer did not show up in his blood work or his chest x-rays. all work came back negative. there are many symptoms that comes along with cancer. (warning signs) my son is still battling his cancer on and off since 2001. if you do have cancer, it does not mean you are going to die. i had a bad mole removed that had a large cyst attached to it under my skin. it was not malignant. if you are dignosed with cancer, you need to have a possistive attitude to beat it. you can not go into it with the idea that you are going to die. remember, no news is good news. if you do not get results back right away is a good thing. if you have cancer, they will not make you wait long to find out. you will know ASAP. be possistive! and live strong....

cyanne said "Almost always".

No. You can have tumor's on your carotid artery's, kidneys, lungs, and it does NOT show up in your blood-work until far too late.........

My mother has a friend who's PSA was a little high. Come to find out he has bone cancer. He probably won't be here too much longer. It only showed up as a "slight" variation in his "count".

Yes, it is possible. However, it's very unlikely. It almost ALWAYS shows up within the amount of time you listed in bloodwork.
