This is an example of a plain and simple truth that has been ignored by centuries of apostasy. The resurrected Christ has a physical body. The Gospel writers wanted us to understand the nature of diety.

This was to prove that He was in a body, and was not a spirit. He said earlier in the passage, "Look at my hands and my feet, for it is I myself. Touch me and see, for a ghost doesn't have flesh and bones as you see that I have." (Luke 24:39)

Later on in the latter first and second centuries, a sect called Gnosticism came about, and they had the belief that the material body was evil, and that the spirit was good. They also believed that Jesus, in His resurrected state, was a spirit, and not a body.

This gave them license to commit all kinds of lewdness, because what the body did was not important, but rather what the spirit did. It was a minor, but for them, philosophically important distinction. The gospel of Judas is a Gnostic heresy which advocated this teaching.

Jesus appeared to some of his followers. This was after the resurrection They were telling him of all the events that had taken place concerning him death. They had been told of the resurrection but they did not believe it.The cooked some fish and ate it. When he ate the fish, they knew it was him, probably because of the way he ate or the way he blessed the food. There was something in his manner at that moment that caused them to recognize him.

This series of verses appears to be a later addition. There is a lot of embellishment, fable-telling, and nonsense throughout the Book of Luke--including this resurrection story.

The point of this passage is to "prove" that Jesus rose from the grave in bodily form by "showing" that he could eat.

Jesus was trying to show his disciples that he was not a ghost. They were afraid as they knew he was dead and were obviously startled by his re-appearance. Ghosts don't eat, so he wanted to show them that it was really him, and he was truly resurrected and not just in spirit form.

It was a sign, to the disciples, that who they were with was Jesus, after his resurrection. Well, not so much just those verses, but those were preceding verses to their realization it was Jesus, before his asencion into heaven.
