He was a wonderful priest, the best I ever knew. He died last Monday and if you ever heard met him you understand how blessed we are. I think he forever helped me strengthened my faith. He was always brave and confident, and focused on a person's soul rather than their exterior labels. He hated using words such as Iiberal, conservative, democrat, republican, gay, straight, proabortion, antiabortion, etc. etc. Because they single out the real person. He was a special Catholic priest who was sometimes quite controversal because he spoke out against war from the pulpit, even singled out the Bush administration, and because he didn't take every word of the Bible literally. Last week, he talked about his fear that his brother priests have become "a remote bunch- afraid to be human, afraid to offend."
But that wasn't his Big Message.
His last words were this,
"The quality of unconditional love is, to me, Divine Life," he said.
He sincerely reminded me what life is really about.
