I mean, just to get a job that I am perfectly qualified for, I must know a language that is not my own. The ads always say must be bilingual. What they really mean is you must speak spanish and english, because if I speak english and chinese, I am still not going to get the job. So, my other question is, why don't hispanics learn english like all of the other immigrants from other countries. My mother in law is filipino and she had to learn english just to survive here. Whats up with that?

A question for you. Are they offering to teach you this second language? I also think they should speak the language. Doncha hate it when you dial a number and they say "press 2 for English"? HELLO! This is America, why should we have to press a number to hear it in English, the language of this country?

Well, I'm sure you understand that all of these businesses want to get as many customers as possible, and the way they do that is with bilingual staff. If you were a smart business owner, you'd do exactly the same thing.
Just because someone doesn't speak English immediately upon arrival doesn't mean that they're not learning. I'm sure that it took your mother-in-law some time before she could speak English well.
People who come to this country, no matter which language they speak or where they're from, are just trying to do exactly what you're trying to do: make a better life for their family.

You can´t avoid the fact that the Hispanic population is growing in the US, and remember that the US is now a bilingual country, because you find in many stores "se habla español", I don´t live in the US, I live in Latin America and i realized that the most of Latin people who go the US don't speak English, I understand that they need to learn English, but when they arrive to the US they can´t learn English in a few hours, is for this reason why you must learn Spanish.

The point for being Spanish/English bilingual is not for Hispanics for understand you. If for to understand them. You can't fight the fact that hispanics are a growing population in US. So if you want to work for someone that wants to target the US market you can't ignore the are lots of people that will be part of your market and speak spanish.
Another reason is that many companies in the us want to make business with Countries like Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina and so on...

Not sure what kind of job you're going for, but most don't require that. Maybe that particular kind of job does, or there are (assuming they want you to learn Spanish) lots of Latinos in your community.
As for learning the language of the land, I propose that anyone who moves to a country that doesn't speak their native language should learn the language that's spoken where they now reside. It's not only respectful of the people of that land, but it's also practical as it must cause a lot of problems if you moved there but can't speak to them. Communication is essential for everyone.

Why must you learn Spanish you ask?
Why not take the opportunity to learn a specialty like a second language that can be the key to opening doors to new opportunities in your future.
Why do you object? are you lazy?...have you no ambition to better yourself and make yourself more marketable as you seek employment?
You need to re-examine your priorities and direction in life.

So look for another job. Why are you opposed to broadening your horizons by learning another language?
