or is it more important to get to know if you can have fun together first, before you get too heavy into questions? I feel like i should let it come naturally but I have so many people coming at me with so many angles. i just need some perspective

find out there likes and dislikes, but don't do all the talking! Allow open ended questions and avoid yes and NO's. Don't try to anyalize on the first date cause u will miss some little things that might actually matter to you. ask about jobs, family, and anything that is non-confrontational (ex politics, sex partners, religion)

Just converse normally like you would with any person that you just met. The key to avoiding akward silence is to ask questions that can't be asnwered with a simple "yes" or "no".

An easy start is to talk about music. Another is about childhood experiences, or where you grew up. Those two things can help you find out alot that you have in common with another person.
