Uh, Christina....
nevermind.
lilmissj... nevermind either- why do you answer questions if you are so self-centered and stupid anyway ?
...anyway, if you got a good tattoo, just like a good meal, why not ?
If the mailperson gets your mail right 365/24/7, tip them too.
It's all about appreciating the service you get, which too many people take for granted.
Puke after din-din in your fav restraunch ? leave a bad tip. Keep on underappreciating your service and they pee in your eggs.
Tattoo artist spells 'Man' instead of 'Mom' ? Take 'em to that restaraunch, er...uh, restarant.

First let me say that tips should never be expected by anyone in a service industry. If they're not making enough then they should raise their prices or get a better paying job. A tip is a "thank you" for a job well done. I have my own business, and while I appreciate every tip I receive, I *never* expect one. (If you know anything about the history, you'd know that tipping came about in England and stood for "to insure promptness" and was given when a pub customer placed their order, not once they had finished.)
It depends on whether or not the artist is the owner of the shop. If the artist is the owner, then no, you don't *have* to, but it's appreciated. If the artist is an employee of the shop, or is renting the space, then yes you should tip them because they have to pay the shop.
The way I think of it, if you'd tip your hairdresser, nail person, or dog groomer, then why wouldn't you tip your tattoo artist? I always tip, and graciously too!

Many of tattoo artists do expect it. Some will also give you a discount on the tattoo if you negotiate an appropriate tip ahead of time. Also remember that the purpose of a tip is to help get you better service, such as a well done tattoo. My advice is to give the tip at the beginning of the tattooing so that you have a good shot at getting a better tattoo.

its not uncommon to tip the artist. however its not like tipping a waitress, wait staff expect some sort of gratuity because that supplements their wage. tattoo artists dont expect it but if the work is something u are happy with, then u should tip and it will be apreciated. I have always tipped my artist.

I tipped one of my tattoo artists and not another one because of a price difference. I would like to know the expectation as well, for next time!

If your artist has done a good job and thoroughly explained e/t,sterility of needles, all about the autoclave, how to care for it,etc. you should definetely tip them.My fiance is a tattoo artist and he only makes 50% of what he charges and some people make even less. That is why tattoo's are expensive,(just for those uneducated people out there)I saw some of the answers people gave and all I can say is a:they're uneducated about tats or b:they're just plain cheap. You get what you pay for.Just so you know our shop is in abingdon va 952 w.main.crazy daizy tats

It is not expected from artists but you have no clue how much it means to them. The artists at my shop LOVE the extra cash and it means so much that their 'canvases' enjoy the art they have just received.Artists work hard to keep their talent in tip top shape for you and it does not hurt to give them a little extra 'thumbs up'.Tipping your artist will probably make their day.Try it, nothing ever hurts.

If you are paying directly to the artist then no you're not, If there was a parlor where several artist worked together and you pay someone else who then gives the artist a cut, i guess you should tip.

If you like the work done a tip is a good way of saying thanks. I tip my artist all the time. All my work is original so I might be more obligated to tip.
