There is so much to consider and one of those is how do you intend to use it; but try to stick withthe importantly basic good feature/capability like its lens-3CCD, pixel-3or5Mpxl, zoom-25x, recording medium-disc/hdd, connectivity-usb/firewire, usage-video/audio/photo/webcam/converter. With this in mind, you can never go wrong whatever brand you choose.
Two best brands that i know are Sony-Dvd handycam and jvc hdd-everio. Both has editing&burning softwares bundled with the videocam, both are really small- ideal for every kind of adventure you want. Also, you can edit your videos right on the camera itself and connect directly onto the computer or tv, and those are just a few cool ideas they have. Compare the two and you'll find yourself awed with a smile. Happy shopping!

i suggest that you tried the cameras which are on display that way you can have the "feel" of it. And ask if the cameras have firewire port so you can eaisly edit your video on your pc & buy a software package so you can have that effects that your wanting to have on your videos, have fun.

I have a sharp VLZ-5. I would stay away from Sharp after having this one repaired several times. Check Consumer Reports in your local library.

go to epinions.com its a great website where normal people rate things like that after they have bought or used them themselves. they will fill you in on glitches or other things about the camera that you wont notice until after your purchase, also, if they break easy, you will se lots of people with broken cameras leaving bad reviews, its a great reference site for electronics and cars as well
