well a promise ring you dont legally have to give back a ingment ring on the other hand you do so legally you dont have to give it back it was a gift it's really up to you if you dont want to tel him that your not going to no matter what and that there is nothing he can tdo to get it from you that it's a ring it has ups and downs but it never ends and because of that your always going to have it that it was a gift from him to you that he was and always will be part of your life and that is the perfect thing to remember him by and you wont give that up

if he asks for it back, u should give it to him. seems like he needs it more than u do. besides, one day ull get married and ur new bf will give u a real ring. where will that old promise ring goin to go then? so mite as well get rid of it now, while u have a scapegoat =P

If it is considered an engagement ring, then you have to give it back. Court rulings have established that it is a conditional gift based upon the marriage taking place. If it was just a gift, then it legally yours to keep.

In reality, you aren't required to return it since it was in fact a gift. Were I in your situation, I personally would give it back, since it is in essence a symbol of our previous relationship and I would want to let go of that memory in order to move on both mentally and emotionally.

I say, give it back :). I think returning it would help release you from whatever bad experiences the two of you might have shared while seeing each other. It is also likely that it would open doors psychologically for you to let go of your previous ties and start over---whether on your own or with someone new.

Good luck :).

Do you really need it? Are you trying to prolong your uncomfortable situation? If you want to end it and never hear from him again give it back and be done with him, next time you'll find the right guy with the real thing.

if the ring doesn't mean anything to you.. then pawn it... but don't give it back to him. It was given to you as a gift.. you can do whatever you want with it. But don't give it back to him.. you may see him one day with a new girlfriend.. and she may be wearing your ring ;)

the standard rule is - if he broke it off, you get to keep the ring but if you broke the engagement, then you must return the ring
that's the way it's always been and that's the way most judges
decide

Give it back. You don't have any ties to him anymore, right?
Someone else may come along and offer you another ring / marriage.

Give him back his ring, He is tacky for asking for it back. Don't give him an excuse to contact you again. shut him up once and for all. that way you can also move on.
