I just can't help asking this question. As I know I am going to get a lot of stupid answers.
Please I am asking for serious answers. I can't help wounder why people go to prison for stealing but not Adultery? They are both part of the TEN Commandments God gave us.
Exo 20:14 You shall not commit adultery.
Exo 20:15 You shall not steal.
Please tell me what your thoughts are on this.
I personally believe if you marry... that it is forever, unless it goes against God Holy Book. No one should commit adultery period ,but I know people fall into temptation no matter what the sin is we all are guilty of sin anyway,However back to my question why prison for stealing and not adultery???

I agree with you on this....adultery is just as deadly as stealing or murder for that matter...just because its sugar coated by saying it does not hurt others, because its "consensual", does not make it any less serious than other crimes....

and yeah, ppl tend to justify that we are in the period of "grace", but the fact is the 10 commandments are moral law, that will endure even in the millenial rule of Christ....grace is not about being free to sin....

also think about this....there are ppl who do personal things and spend time on the net during work hours....this is equivalent to stealing from the employer, cuz ur paid for every min that you spend on ur desk.....

God bless...

Let's start with the frame work: 1 Cor 10:23-24 with an emphasis on 24. You are quoting the wrong book.

Then go to John 8:10-11 with emphasis on "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Now I know John 8 talks about adultery, but if you read the Gospels, you will see that the emphasis on "Go now and leave your life of sin" applies to all sin.

Now back to your question, adultery is a crime in many state laws; they are called blues. If two adults consent to have sex, where is the crime? If either of them are married, then they both commit adultery. Crime deals with civil law not moral law.

Life in the Christian bible New Testament period had both Jewish law as well as Roman Law. Jesus ministered to the Jews and he quotes Jewish Law.

In any case, Jesus answer would be the same: "Go now and leave your life of sin." Maybe you should take some time and listen to Jesus' teachings.

Sin is sin. However, stealing ones heart is not a sin but adultery is. If you go back to the good old days people who committed adultery were not only imprisoned but at one time they were stoned to death. Adultery is pretty common now, however, if you want to get an idea of some of the old world consequences for adultery you can rent the move The Scarlet Letter.

There are legal penalties for adultery in some cases. Generally one spouse gets the sympathy of the court if divorce is on the grounds of the other's adultery.

But even though our laws are influenced by the 10 commandments, the 10 commandments are not our national laws as they were Israel's national laws.

It is as bad before God as theft, but our government is not responsible for protecting its citizenry at large from adultery. It is not seen as the same sort of public threat that theft is.

That's why you can be jailed for theft and not for adultery. It's between a married couple and God, not the public, government, and God.

We live under the new testament. Sin is sin, it is man that puts degrees on sin. Anything that separates us from God is sin. I agree with you on marriage, but marriage is a personal relationship and theft is not. In the old testament days either offense would get you stoned to death. Under Christ we are allowed a little grace but are still called to obedience and away from sin.

Some states today still recognize adultery as grounds for divorce. It was because of the hardness of their hearts that Moses allowed divorce. It is no different today. Somebody gets selfish and the marriage dissolves.

I believe adultery is not just a sexual sin, but the introduction into the marriage of anything that does not belong therein is adultery. Alcohol abuse, drug abuse, spousal abuse, abandonment of the marriage, etc all have no business in a marriage and corrupt and destroy it. But our laws do not include jail time for adultry- unless harm is done physically.

Adultery is a Mortal Sin.
Stealing can be a Venial or a Mortal Sin depending on the circumstances of the incidence.

There used to be prison for adultery but the PC crew got it taken out of the lawbooks.

i believe thats a good question. My thoughts are that stealing is very bad in some cases like when you commit a robbery and threaten someone's life, but I believe adultery is worst because sex should be shared only between married people who are commited instead of messing woth someone else's potential spouse. What's wrong with today's youth? I am a youth myself but the youth seem to commit these actions more than grown folks nowadays

okay, you do not get put into prison just for committing a sin. Adultery is terrible, but it does not really make you a danger to society in the way that stealing does.

What if we went to prison for every commandment we broke? I'd be in prison for the rest of my natural life. God sent His Son to pay for the times we break those commandments. That is what the Cross is all about. Jesus died to take our sins (breaking His commandments), away so in the end, we won't have to pay ourselves. When we break one if His commandments, we have to face God on judgement day and look Him in the eye and explain why we did or did not accept His payment for our wrong. If we accept Jesus into our hearts, we are forgiven of adultry or stealing, if we ask for forgiveness. Back to your question, this is mans law, putting people in prison for stealing, guess they don't feel adultry is that wrong. But the commandments are not multiple choice!

there is a difference between the laws God set and man..although God is the one who set the order in which man may follow..but with God all committed sin are judged in judgment...unless you surrender them to God in which you are not judged the same way...but anywho...

The law of the land states..if you do the crime...you will do the time..the law of the land says you will go to jail for theft stealing larceny grand or petty...adultery back in the day way before us...adultery..was payed by people here but as time progressed the land changed the laws..so now we have to wait for God to judge...but hopefully that person..accepts Christ in which the slate is wiped...God bless
