* Fun Styles for Straight Hair *
Bored with your pin-straight locks? Try these 10 great styling ideas for a fresh new look -- no haircut required!
1. Apply mousse. Rake a handful of mousse through damp hair, flip head over, and blow dry on high. When you flip your head back up, you'll have volume and texture.
2. Braid it. Pull hair into a low ponytail, and braid it. Leave about an inch at the end, and secure with a covered elastic. Braids look youthful and chic.
3. Change your part. For an easy change, swap sides, or try one in the middle.
4. Add lowlights. Highlights on very straight hair can sometimes look stripy; instead, ask your colorist for darker pieces weaved into your natural shade.
5. Try an easy updo. Pull your hair into a loose, low ponytail. Twist the tail upward, and secure to the back of your head with a large clip. Allow some pieces of hair to fall around your face.
6. Spritz on shine. Apply a mist of shine-enhancing spray to dry hair; it camouflages damage and makes hair look luminous.
7. Add an accessory. For spring, choose chunky plastic clips in candy colors.
8. Get beachy. For a textured, slightly mussed look, apply a surf spray (a mixture of salt and styling lotion) to damp hair. Bumble and bumble makes a good one. Tousle hair with your fingers as you blow dry it.
9. Sweep it back. Invest in a wide leather headband. Slide it into your hair, about an inch back from your hairline.
10. Set it. To go curly for a day, set two-inch-wide sections of hair on hot rollers. Wind hair onto rollers held vertically; pin at your scalp. When the rollers have cooled, remove carefully. Finger comb hair into place.
* Long hairstyles should have lots of natural texture, flirtatious flips and long loose layers whether your hairstyle is straight, wavy or curly.
A versatile cut that is layered all around can be achieved by using simple techniques. Razoring and slicing can be used around the perimeter of long hairstyles to give definition.
A one-length solid cut is also popular with a long hairstyle, as it's easy to put up or to be sleeked back into a ponytail that's practical.
By using a parting, you can totally change the look of long hairstyles. Wear it in the middle, side or at an angle and you would be surprised at how much your appearance can change. These days partings are becoming a fashion accessory.
Apply styling products and blow-dry hair with a large round brush or paddle brush to accentuate layers around the face. Try using a flat-iron to achieve that smooth texture.
If you have a long hairstyle, it's best to take care of it or don't have it at all.

I would say that you don't want too much of a shock by cutting it short. I would suggest that you get it cut half-way between your back and shoulders. I don't think that you should dye your hair again. That just destroys it. As far as the thick and straight part goes, I like straight hair. Look at Cher. She always had thick and straight hair.

If you've always had super-long hair.. cut it in baby steps.. don't just go chopping it all off at once... cause you'll miss it.. trust me... if you don't like the thickness have your stylist go though it with thinning shears.. this will make it more tolerable to wear down as well, won't feel as heavy...
