Over the last 20yrs of flying professionally, I've met all kinds.
Very much a cross section but there are some commonalities.
Self Confidence leaning towards arrogance.
Often not overly empathetic.
Usually very aware and observant.
And if your ever in a room full of people and you don't know who the pilot is......just wait a minute....he'll tell you!
Oh and another thing.....lock up your daughters...and maybe mom too!

I think overall they are pretty nice. After all they do work in a service industry where customer satisfaction is really important. Most of the pilots I have encountered are really nice. Some will tell the passengers when they are flying over landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty to look out towards the right side and there will be the famous landmark. It becomes a nice sightseeing tour. Some pilots just see flying as another job. It's like that in all professions. Some people are nicer to work with than others.

Of what the first person said, when I went through my flight training through college, I saw about 1/2 of the people drop out. So I would disagree "anyone" can do it. People say flying is like driving a car, ha, try memorizing all the legal stuff you have to know.
In general, most pilots are nice, people are people.

People who became pilots just because it is their desire to fly a plane and to have a nice-paying job can be TAUGHT to be nice to people. After all, they do see a lot of people in their job.
However, those who prefer to become pilots because they love to get people from one place to another place safely, appropriately and comfortably, tend to have more compassion in their job and towards people around them. They take care of that big responsibility of transporting people in the sky. These make up the true pilot that you probably met.

As mentioned: people are people. However, it's a career with special attention to passengers and crew, as people face stress of flight (panic, long flights, physiological disturbance). As well (and quite important!), they are well-paid!! To be nice could be permanent manners, or just a technique that you follow and keep. If a pilot is not naturally nice, he/she could be on purpose at least for the time of flights!!. Once on a domestic flight, I met one who was nice enough to help me land the flight simulator aircraft on my laptop (before take-off!).

They vary. Most of them are, though! Some can seem a little anti-social sometimes, though.
Just went through pilot training.

most are
they had been flight instructors for a long time, accumulating their flight hours while squeezed into the cockpit of a tiny airplane next to sweaty students - they have to be friendly or they would have given up earlier
