This is a great question. Dreams only occur when a person is in a light sleep. Know one dreams when under sedation. This means that dreams are nothing more then the subconscious bubbles of the fantasy neurons in the right side of your brain. They are always rising but are only recognizable when you turn down the out side volume. It's sort of like listening to the radio. If you turn the volume way down you can still hear it. If you turn it off you can't, but that doesn't mean the noises has left the air. End of story.

People say they 'find' love, as if it were an object hidden by a rock. But love takes many forms, and it is never the same for any man and woman. What people find then is a certain love.
Love, like rain, can nourish from above, drenching couples with a soaking joy. But sometimes, under the angry heat of life, love dries on the surface and must nourish from below, tending to its roots, keeping itself alive.
Lost love is still love. It takes a different form, that's all. You can't see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightens. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance with it.

sleep is composed of various stages of dreaming. They range from slightly sleeping to deep sleep.
The slightly sleeping stage is where you could remember dreams. Then you drift for about two hours into a deep sleep where you cannot remember anything.
Then you go back to shallow sleep. You need at least two times into deep sleep for a restful night. That is minimum. Three times would be best...with intervals into light sleep.
Hope it helps.
The dreams you remember are made from your experiences, fears, and or hopes. Often there are symbols that represent things, the trick is to know what they mean.

a dream is a wish your heart makes ........ ok no seriously (sorry too much disney)
dreams are parts of your subconscious mind that are being able to surface without you (general use of the word) surpressing them. hence why we have dreams or nightmares. people will say it happens during certain stages of your sleep perhaps that's true but I like thinking there's more to it. A question that can be interpretted in many ways.
