We are her parents and listed on her birth certificate. We have no passports. My DH has a green card and is a Canadian citizen, I am a US citizen as is my daughter. We are leaving this coming Friday, July 28th. We are going to visit my husbands family. All we have is her birth certificate for identification. We will also be driving.

I went through at Niagra Falls into Canada and all they asked for was my wifes drivers license and mine. Shae had a passport and they looked at it also, they liked the passport. We had our birth certificates but they never asked for them. They asked our business there, how long and where we were going to stay and when we were leaving. thay asked if we had guns or any kind of weapons. then handed back our drivers license and said have great day. when we came back into the U.S. they were a lot tougher, more questions and looked in our trunk.

You need just a birth certificate for her. You and your DH will need photo ID and birth cert or passport. I just traveled to Canada earlier this month. Canada will not require passports until Dec 2007

I think you may need passports now or later this year. I suggest you check online at the state department website to make sure. If you go into Canada and try and come back the U.S. customs will not let you back into the country.

Ok, I got curious and checked for myself. If you go by air or sea you need passports by 12/31/2006. For driving a passport is required 12/31/2007.

Definitely a certified birth certificate. She may need photo id. If she doesn't have a driver's license or learner's permit yet she may be able to use her school id. Starting next year she'll need a passport (all of you will) whether you fly or drive.

I think the birth certificate should be fine on its own, but a passport would help.

That's all you need. The parents just need their official photo ID and the baby's birth certificate or a notarized copy of the certificate.
