I am looking for a medium to large dog. It would spend as much time inside as outside and I have no children. Also I am not interested in an agressive breed. Any ideas?

Bichon Frise. They are also practically hypoallergenic. You can read more about them at

Hope this helps. Also if you don't like poodles because you think they are small, the standard poodles are actually quite large. If you don't like poodles b/c of their hair, you won't like the Bichon Frise either but consider a poodle mix. They typically retain the shed-free quality but look quite different. Poodles are being mixed with all sorts of dogs including the loveable Lab.

If the mother is a puggle she is a cross between a pug and a beagle. Both of those breeds shed. Poodles do not shed but the chances of puppies from this breeding being shedding versus non shedding is 2 to 1. They may not shed much but they will shed. If you are set on a non-shedding dog, get a purebred. There are a number of them that shed little to none. If you want a mixed breed, try your local shelter first. If you really like the poodle/puggle go for it but don't let your heart rule your head. Good luck to you.

There are standard schnauzers they don't shed at all. They all have different personalities so it's hard to say how they'll act. They are not mean or aggressive. They run from $200 to $300 dollars. A lot are protective of their owners so they are a good watch dog and you can feel protected. They will bond and not want to leave. The miniature schnauzers grow up to 14lbs at the most. Do not get toy schnauzers they get sick a lot and have seizures a lot.

i have had every breed and believe me poodles shed alot. many dogs if they are on a poor diet or stressed will lose more hair than usual. as dogs are very much like humans. we shed over 400 hairs a day to make room for new hair. in animals its the same thing. there are breeds that don't shed as much but they are very expensive dogs. the hairless dog which is rare costs over 25 grand. the shorter the hair on the breed, the less hair it will shed. great danes have very short hair.

Try a Portugese Wayer Dog (PWD). I hear their hair grows much like a human's and is thus easy to maintain. They're not aggressive at all (very good with kids) and, quite obviously, love the water. I've heard they make excellent companions!

Whomever said Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers (SCWTs), isn't telling the truth about shedding. I've known people who have them and say the shed pretty bad.

Miniature Schnauzers, Other Terriers (Jack Russell, etc. Chihuahuas are not bad on shedding. The reason certain dogs do not shed is because there is a difference between hair and fur. Hair sheds unnoticeably, whereas fur sheds a new coat every season.

***ALL***dogs shed! It's JUST a matter of degree!
Go to the AKC site & READ the BREED STANDARDS!!

DON'T fall for the *MUTT w/a CUTESY-POO NAME*,OK??

Btw,you DO know that the Standard Poodle IS a large dog?? They don't HAVE TO BE in the show-clip.

You might consider bichon frise, wheaten terriers, poodles and schnauzers.
While no breed is guaranteed shed-free, you should be ok with any of these. You can also go to the american kennel club website and look through there for advice.

Get a standard Poodle, they are pretty big. You could also get a Bedlington, but they are not nearly as large.

And hairless dogs do NOT cost $25,000.
