Catholics DON'T worship the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) says this in paragraph #266

"Now this is the Catholic faith: We worship one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in unity, without either confusing the persons or dividing the substance; for the person of the Father is one, the Son's is another, the Holy Spirit's another; but the Godhead of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one, their glory equal, their majesty coeternal"

The CCC says this in paragraph #971:

The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of ‘Mother of God,' . . .
This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit

The official teaching of the Catholic Church is clear:

"We worship ONE God in the Trinity"

The DEVOTION given to the Virgin Mary "DIFFERS ESSENTIALLY from the ADORATION which is given" to God.

So beware all you people who accuse the Catholic Church of teaching that the Virgin Mary is God or a God or a diety or that the Virgin Mary is to be worshipped like God.

When you say these things, you are lying and you are breaking the commandment "Thou shall not bear false witness."

This is a great question. I wondered similar things when I was a young Christian. There is no one worthy of worship except the one and only God. Mary (may God have mercy on her) is one of the greatest women God created, and the Prophet Jesus (Peace be upon him) is one of the greatest prophets. But neither asked people to worship them, but as a prophet, Jesus only asked people to return to worshipping God. Every time people stop following God's religion He calls them back, and the people who say they follow Jesus now, do not really follow him, but they have changed his messenge.

Which is why I became Muslim :) Because belief in one God is all from the same religion so we see in Islam in the holy book the Qur'an that Adam is still the first human being and prophet, and that Abraham is the father of nations and prophets, and that we must too believe in Noah, Moses, Jesus and many other prophets that were sent. Visit a mosque! You may be surprised and amazed. Muslims are so inviting and open (I'm just a white american guy, and they were always nice to me, lol). Peace.

Maybe you should do a little research before you post rambling, inaccurate questions. I am a faithful Catholic and we do not worship the Virgin Mary. We worship God, and only God. We revere the Blessed Virgin becuase God saw her fit to give birth to our Lord. We ask her to intercede for us in Heaven because we know that the one thing Jesus can't do is refuse His mother. Pope John Paul II honored Mary very heavily, that's why many non-Catholics were led to believe that we worship her. This is simply not the case.

I have argued with many no-Catholics, mostly Lutherans, about this very subject. One man backed himself up by saying, "I should know better, I've been around longer than you have." To which I replied, "I've been Catholic longer than you have."

He had nothing more to say.

Catholics don't worship Mary but consider her the holiest (or most honorable) of all saints because of her relationship to God. She was choosen to be the holiest of all people, influencial (wedding at Cana), loyal (she was at her son's death) plus she held upmost loyalty to Jesus. Above all Saints her life and faith is that of the perfect Christian (and she is a woman proving women are just as holy as men).

Prayers to Mary are not worshipping her but are actually asking her to pray to god for you in a type of perpetual devotion, much like asking a friend to pray for your sick mother. The reason behind this is Catholics and Eastern Orthodox believe the to Communion of Saints which mean all living men and those in heaven can pray to God. Therefore asking a deceased grandmother to pray for you is the same as asking a living one to do the same.

However I am not a theologian so if you want to read more indepth answers try a Catholic or Eastern Orthodox website such as catholic.org.

Catholics base worship of Mary on the old pagan ritual of worshipping the mother and baby. It started with Nimrod (see Genesis) who eventually became Baal (not a good thing), and his wife was deified as well, and people began worshipping her for giving birth to a baby. In the early Catholic years...bout the time Constantine took over and "Christianized" everyone, the pagans needed a way to be able to be included yet not give up their way of life...keep the conquered happy...so Constantine and the "church" let them keep that practice of mother worship..and lo and behold...Mary fit right in. Catholicism teaches to sing Ava Maria, say Hail Mary's, so on and so forth..but none of that is biblical. Jesus never once said to pray to His mother in lieu of Him, that she'd have any special way of talking to him.. HE is the intercessor to God..not her. It is sad that so many are deceived and yet hold on to those false beliefs with such a strong hold. Mary was never ever said to be sinless...she needed a savior just like every other human...she was blessed to be the human mother of the Son of God...but the lies spread by the RCC that she was a perpetual virgin (she had His brothers...see bible for details) and was sinless is pure blasphemy.

You are uneducated in that religion...I'm Catholic, and I worship GOD. The rest of you have a misconception of Catholics ONLY worshipping the Virgin Mary. We Christians know that Mary was the mother of Jesus, and so forth. Why would you and anybody else think that just because we have statues of her, we "worship" her as a god???!!!!! People PRAY to the Virgin Mary no different than praying to Christ and GOD.

Are you telling us catholics worship mary like or as a God or you just don't understand what you are talking about? If you really wanna know everthing that the catholic church teaches then get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church(CCC) and find out/verify all you heard from anti-catholics. That is, if you are serious. If not, stop asking.

Catholics don't worship the Virgin Mary. It is a sin to worship anyone but God alone. This is Catholic dogma. But it is also a sin to reject what God has chosen, especially what He has sanctified and glorified. Now God sanctified and glorified the Virgin Mary from the very first moment of her conception to her coronation in Heaven. If God chose to give the Mother of Jesus such glory and honour, who are we to say, "Don't do it, it's wrong!" ? Personally, I prefer listening to the Wisdom of God rather than the ramblings of man.

Christians also worship Jesus and a Dove called Holy Spirit. So, what's the problem to worship Mary?

Catholics do not worship the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, and Episcopal Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints. You, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.

With love in Christ.
