You're only 14. You're body's still going to be maturing a while. You're probably still going to have that "little pooch" for quite some time. It's a natural thing.

However, I would agree with the others that say to work out. Do yoga, pilates, walking, jogging, cycling, swimming. Find something you can do consistently, and something you'll enjoy. Also, I'd recommend very light abdominal training twice a week (3 sets of 20 sit-ups should do) you don't need to go overkill on the sit-ups. Working out your ab muscles too much will actually strengthen them and make them larger, giving you the appearance of a bigger gut.

Just make sure you stick with eating healthy and exercising!

5'5" and 120 lbs. is a perfectly healthy weight. If by "gut" you mean a slight bulge in your lower abdomen area, that is normal. Most women have it- so congratulations, you're getting your curves. I know your changing body can make you a little (or a lot) self-conscious, and sometimes what it does seems weird or abnormal. But rest assured, it sounds like you're perfectly normal. You are not in any way overweight, so don't try to slim down. It could be unhealthy. If you want to tone your middle a little bit, try doing some sit ups, crunches, or leg lifts.

First you have to watch your diet if you eat fattening foods its going to show up on your body if your not burning it off by exercising , The best way to get a flat stomach is by doing crunches 3 sets of 10 to start also full sit ups , but you have to shed the fat to see the muscle underneath , you could do thousands of crunches and never see the muscle because the fat is there so eat clean &healthy it wont take you long to get results if your determined but yes it is worth it ,

your body is still developing and it is actually very healthy for young girls to carry a little bit of extra chubbiness on their frames. don't be seduced by the images in the glossy magazines. eat well and get lots of excercise and that's really the best you can do for yourself. you are young, you are used to your body changing regularly; don't worry, it will continue to do so for a number of years. if there's something about it right now that you are not satisfied with, don't worry, it won't necessarily last. but the benefits of taking good care of yourself will last, and stressing or being hard on yourself is not good for your health either.
and remember, even when you are older and your body fat has shifted around to different places it's still better to have a little extra than to be scrawny and too thin.
love your body the best way that you know how, take care of it and it will take good care of you. your body probably needs that stuff it's storing in your gut right now so just relax and smile and be as healthy and happy as you can. that's the real secret to being beautiful, anyway.
many people have recognized that European women are very beautiful and very stylish. I will tell you what I think is the difference between European and North American women. North American women have one ideal standard of beauty in their heads, and they judge themselves to be beautiful or not beautiful according to how much they conform to that idea of beauty. Often that means they judge themselves very harshly.
European women are more likely to understand that to men, women are very beautiful; all different kinds of women, not just one standard model. So they are better at using what their mamas gave them to bring out and accent the beauty they naturally have. this is a much more honest approach than the angry self-criticism of North American women, and it's much more effective.
Miss Universe was on tv tonight. I watched a little bit of it, and I was really struck by how SIMILAR all the women looked. they had different hair and skin tones, but other than that they were all pretty much exacty the same. Miss Universe is made in LA, where the single standard issue woman is the dominant idea, and I really didn't think what I saw in the competition gives anything close to good representation of the beauty of women in our universe.
you should try to be more Paris or Milan in your attitude about your own body than LA. you will have a much healthier, happier, and more honest approach to yourself, and it will reflect in the relationships you have with people; they will be warmer and more individual. The ice queens of LA torture themeslves to fit into the body type they are expected to have and I think that as a type, they are generally very lonely and desperate people.

What I've been doing is, eating a little bit less, and doing sit-ups and crunches. My gut has come off mostly and you can see my abs coming in. I still have my 'lovehandles' though, those take a while to get off.

Please read the recommendations below. Also, go to the book store and locate the book "Weight Training for Dummies". In chapter 15 you will find excellent information on how to perform abdominal exercises correctly. Page 218 of the book dispels all the myths surrounding abdominal training.

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter. A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier.
