you mean dock the tail...the ears are cropped. It must be done when they are first born....they don't use any anesthetic and at this time the tail bone is still soft and can be snipped. Once a dog is older and the bone become stiff...it is a major surgery and the dog would have to be knocked out for the procedure, and everytime a dog is anesthetized there is a chance it could die. I would opt to keep the tail and/or ears. I would not risk my dogs life for a surgery that is totally unneccessary. It is for looks only...and unless your dog is a show dog, you should not have ANY reason to do this.

It must be at the most 3 days. Anesthetic is not used as it is very risky in young pups. As for them not feeling pain I completely disagree. I work at a vet clinic and have done numerous tail amputations. They scream. Not for too long but it hurts and probably aches after wards, they don't get ANY pain meds. Unless this is a show dog and it needs to be done for breed standard shows why do it?

tail cropping should be done at 3 days old and is only 5. bucks . unless you wait till they are any older, then its a surgery. and will cost as an operation does.

Why would you want to crop a dog's tail? It only serves aesthetic purposes, and it causes the dog a lot of pain!

No later than three day old. The nerves supposedly have not fully developed so its not going to feel it. Cutting thru a developed nerve I am sure is painful. In some countries it is now illegal.

WHY are you asking HERE??? These folks BARELY know which end BITES!!! DON'T listen to the sissy AR/peta types!
*DOCK*(NOT "crop"!!that's EARS!) between 3-4 DAYS!!! Very minor procedure & relatively in-expensive. If you wait too long...then it's TOO LATE!
Your pup,your choice.

The younger the better, call your vet on price - apx. $25.00. If the dog is older it will be considered a surgery and the price will go up.

its best to have it done with in the first 3 days after that it is much harder and if you wait till its old enough to remember and go and have it surgecally done it could tramatize it its also cheaper to do it that early been there done it 3 different times if you know how to do it you can just do it your self

don't do it!
how would you like it if your folks decided to trim your ears and nose, when you were a baby, cos they thought you'd look cool?
just leave the poor dog's tail alone!
