Is there any way to have a credit card with Citibank and not have to listen to agents talk endlessly about all these worthless things they think I should have?

I don't care about my APR rate; I don't want credit protection; I don't want to transfer a balance, etc.

NO. They probably have to do that to keep their jobs. They have to answer to their boss; their calls are potentially randomly recorded. these people you talk to actually make good money but have to go through a lot of bs to do it. The answer is no. just say no. let them know that you realize that you know that they have a quota to make and they have to say their spiel but say no thanks anyways and hanging up the phone works too.

I think your frustration is understandable, especially if you're not accustomed to dealing with banks. We (the consumers) are so consistently bombarded with sale ruses and misleading advertisements, that it gets to the point we don't want to hear a sales pitch. Just give me the basic product or not - I don't want to hear the rest. But if you can force yourself at times to realize that occasionally there 'is' an added service that may to be our benefit. I personally don't like to make the kinds of calls that you did, or to do business of that type, unless I feel very patient and tolerant that day. I'll put it off for the right mood. Listen to what they have to offer, ask how it is supposed to benefit you. If it doesn't just decline the offer(s) and keep whittling it down until maybe the basic service that you originally intended. Whether it's a bank or later a loan application or an investment opportunity, it's good to train yourself for a way of dealing with it in a way that is good for you, not just good for the business. I believe that starts with not doing this type of business until you're in the right frame of mind. Wait for the right personal moment.

Oh you mean the Citi call center in India? Tell them you are at work, they may not contact you at this number with offers. No they cannot have another number to contact you at.
