I doubt that if one of these marriages existed, it would be anything more than a marriage of convenience. It couldn't be based on love because you don't actually know the person very well (unless, of course, you communicate in a third language that both of you speak).
I've dated a guy who spoke no English whatsoever, but I was fairly proficient in his language (Spanish). There were communication issues from time to time, but my Spanish improved a ton. :)

Not in our case. My wife speaks very good English, even though I don't speak good German.
I've heard of this happening. Love will find a way.

I married someone who barely spoke English and I didn't speak any Chinese then. She speaks English now, but the best benefit is with my mother-in-law. We can't argue because I seldom know what she's talking about and my wife usually says, "You don't want to know."

You know there're 1000s of languages out there.
If person A (native Swahili speaker) marries person B (native Turkish speaker) they could communicate in any third or fourth language....

That seems pretty pointless, because if you can't communicate with someone verbally, you don't really know them. I'd wonder about anyone that did marry someone who spoke a different language!

My husband spoke Arabic and I speak English.
We did have Spanish in common, so it wasn't all hand signals and such.
No, the marriage didn't last. But not for lack of language in common. (just everything else in common)
