Sure.. Nation wide there are Ronald Mc Donald Houses run on donation of money as well as personal time donated. I have Cancer, and when I had my daughter she was very sick with Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns. We ended up spending 5 weeks in the NICU.. (here is a photo of her on life support) http://www.jpegwizard.com/view.asp?File=519200623425AM9767
The Ronald Mc Donald House offered us a place to stay that was minutes from the hospital. We were so blessed. They even had a little bus that took us from the home to the hospital day or night. Each evening churches would come in and cook the families a nice homecooked dinner.. You don't know what that meant to me.
The day they told me that I could not see my daughter because they thought she was going to die, the girl scouts came and brought my other children EASTER baskets because my mind was so preoccupied with the baby. A church group came and made dinner, and also let the kids hunt eggs.
I will never NEVER, forget what the people in that town did for me. If I am ever wealthy, I know where I will be donating my time and money.
Each day, was a nightmare for us. Someone was always there to lend just a small hand. It meant so much to me.....Bless them all.

That's very noble of you. I'm glad you're starting to focus on helping your community and others around you. That's setting a very good example for others. You will gain so much more respect that way.
You can start at Red Cross, City hall, animal shelter, homeless shelter, and many other place. May you can also try get involve with political to see if you can get some of them sway toward change some laws in your community to make it more safe or something. Also you can alway ask fire & rescue dept., hospital, or police dept. if you can volunteer or do anything.
If you've not started college or decide on maior yet, try maior in something like medical, criminal & iustice, psychology, etc... So you can have a career in dept. that help people out.

there are about a zillion things you can do, though, so it really depends. you can tutor children after school, pick up litter in neighborhoods and next to highways, volunteer at a local animal shelter, start a club or organization to protect the enviornment or the rights of senior citizens or something, or apply to volunteer at really any local pro-bono organization
and even if youre too busy to do any of that, work small--pick up a McDonalds cup off the sidewalk and throw it away, hold doors open for people, smile at strangers, carpool, serve as a positive role model for kids--every little bit has a positive effect, believe me : )
