Mr. Panacea u tried to give a very detailed answer but i want to correct u in some places. leaving islam and entering to some other religion, the punishment is NOT death. since i am muslim so i know better then u. u can change ur religion but once u leave islam u can not come back to it. even if u come back, mulims do not ve do anything with u but it is supposed to be ur and God's matter. no one has to do anything with this matter. 2ndly Islam is the most spreading religion around the world. the number of muslims is increasing day by day. go and ve some research on this ratio. i bet, if some one gets true knowledge of islam and its back ground, no one will ever want to get him self out of its circle. he would love to be in it for ever. coz truth has magnetic power. u r rite, there will be a day when u ll see only truth in whole world. oh yea, better to tell u, islamic culture is very old and ve very sound foundations.

I didn't really understand everything you said in the last half (perhaps you text too much), but I think I get the gist.

How can anyone give ignorant statements against anything? Quite simply. They just do it. Opinions are just that, a persons own belief about whatever subject they're on. In this instance, the subject would be Islam.

I'm thinking it's easy for people to thrash Islam and muslims because of the situation in the Middle East. A few fanatics are running around, using religion as an excuse, blowing things up, and making the news with words like "death toll". Islam is not the only religion with fanatic problems, it's just the one that happens to be a part of the "enemy's" lifestyle.

Osama bin Laden is to Islam what Fred Phelps is to Christianity. I can't think of any other relevant analogies for any other religions or I'd add them, too. What Christian person in their right mind would stand with Fred Phelps and say that he's just like any other Believer? Not a single one. Phelps is a fanatic and he's not representing Christianity. The Islamic militants are the same thing.

If you could change that kind of thinking, then I'd imagine that a lot of the fighting going on in the world today would disappear.

Most of the people who are muslim and don't subscribe to the behavior you see terrorists engaging in, are simply ignorant about their own religion. The best thing to do is to encourage them to study the Quran and other holy texts and challenge them on what is in there. Understand that Islam does not allow "interpretation" (the punishment for this is death) and everything in the Quran is considerd literal and the specific word of God. The problem is that much of it is basically specific commands to do various evil acts. And I do mean commands. Jihad is not optional in Islam. The terrorists are simply devout muslims doing what their religion demands of them. This can be difficult for christians and jews to understand since their religions don't command these behaviors and allow interpretation, flexibility and enlightenment in their followers. Not so with Islam.

What I am getting at here is that, after 9/11, a very important process started. The process by which the world started to pay attention to Islam....to take it seriously. People are learning the truth about the religion by reading the Quran, the history of Muhammad and of Islam in general. Not only is the western world waking up to the threat, but huge numbers of muslims are learning the truth about their religion and leaving. The punishment for leaving Islam is death (and many people a day are executed for this in various muslim countries) and still a flood of people are leaving. They leave because they are learning that Islam does not match their value system....indeed, the religion is evil by the standards of most other religions and civilized societies.

So to answer your question, yes. By denouncing Islam and, more importantly, holding up its teachnings for specific scrutiny and then showing how those teachings lead directly to the behaviors we are witnessing today from the muslim world, many muslims learn the truth and either convert or simply just leave Islam. This doesn't incite hatred in the arab world....far from it. Those who hate, always hated and nothing will change that. But, the far greater population of those that do NOT hate are being saved from brainwashing. Quite literally, they learn to think for themselves rather than hate.

Personally, I think Islam is doomed. Simply too much about it has been revealed to the world and is now common knowledge. It has become very difficult to cover up the truth, especially from muslims. Only a matter of time before the good people of the world simply turn their back on Islam, leaving the tiny minority of those that hate, behind....with no support, no roots, no culture and no state sponsorship. They will wither and die on the vine because of this. I think that my children will look on countries in the middle east much the way I look at Japan today. I mean, my grandfather (still alive) fought in WWII. He remembers a time when the japanese were crazy fanatics hell bent on world domination (much like the muslims are today). But, no trace of that remains. Without learning about it in history class, I would never know that it had ever happened, talking to japanese folks. Same thing is going to happen to the muslims.

The problem is that most people believe whatever it is said in the news. And the news in US is heavily censored and slanted.
Right now it is socially acceptable to make derogatory statements about Islam. The same could not be said about other religions.
Sad story but nothing new if you look at the history of US. We love to pick a group and discriminate against them as a whole for the actions of few individuals.

This would be because people are ignorant and in an attempt to hide their ignorance they take uneducated jabs at philosophies and theorys they know nothing about. Also peole desire to be correct, to be the best, to be right. By hearing another person's religion they would stake their religion for being wrong. But if they truly have faith in their religion, learing about other religions should do nothing more than strengthen their own beliefs. I hope that you do not feel you have experinced any of this. Remember that when people are confronted with something that is unfamiliar to them, or makes them uncomfortable they tend to try and divert attention away from them, possibly in such ways as making fun of the subject of hand. But my question is how do Christians (or any other religious faith) expect for people to willingly listen to their religious ideas if they will not listen themselves?

God Bless

I am a Christian from birth. . .and on several occasions have had the opportunity to "change my mind" or become even more "committed" to my respective religious tradition. I am also a University trained Comparative Religion student, especially Judaism and the Eastern Religions.

Several years ago I had the priviledge of spending a few hours with a religious leader at a local Mosque. . .many of my questions were answered. . .and a few wonderful books and introductory pamphlets were provided. . .plus a beautiful hardcover version of the Holy Quran.

I speak from experience when writing the following: we are perhaps "miles" apart, in terms of understanding each other's religious traditions. And the fingers can be pointed in both directions because many Muslims (especially the college educated ones) do not understand the diversity. . .and perhaps confusion. . .of modern Christianity. . .or of Judaism outside of Israel (or Europe for that matter) . .and "real" life for most in the United States.

We are living in a world of considerable change right now. . .by the end of the current decade there will be MORE Muslim Americans than Jewish Americans. . .and, in time, there will be increasing opportunities for one group to understand (and appreciate) the other.

But some of the important questions that non-Muslims are asking now. . .have more to do with conflicts within Islam itself. . .for example. . .the use and potential abuse of "Hadith" (recorded sayings and traditions of the Prophet Mohammed and his early followers) for the Holy Quran does NOT sanction acts of violence in the name of G-d (Allah). . .and the nature of undue conflict for what appears to be a deep rooted, complex but volatile "blood feud" of sorts between Sunnis and Shiates.

Peace to you and those whom your thoughts rest upon!

Good and bewildering questions that needs time to investigate and understand the cultures of religions, but I'll try to be concise. I think many believers of religions, any religion, are biased and prejudiced against others because they think they are certainly RIGHT. If anyone thought that he/she is surely right, the others will certainly be WRONG. If you are wrong, I may ask you to correct yourself (convert). If you don't and I am weak, I will hate you but I'll hide my hatred (tolerance) until I find time suitable to declare it. If you don't convert and I am strong I'll fight you until one of us kill or convert the other. Besides, any discussion about religion does not address mind but it addresses emotions. In issues of religion, a believer can never be moderate because he/she is either a believer who is ready to die for his/her religion if he/she feels any threat, or he is non-believer who is in fact an atheist and in some religions atheists must be abolished, and so on, you find yourself in a vicious circle.
