Style your hair as unique and cute as possible. You will become a walking advertisement. I am a hairstylist, I have a short, unique haircut, amazing color, and style and people stop me all the time. I even get stopped shopping and at the supermarket. When they ask where you get your hair done, just slip them your business card with a smile and say, I'll be happy to do something like it for you, I'm a hairstylist at so and so.......

id just try to make the clients you already have realllly happy. make sure you are giving them what they want and listen to them. everytime i go to the hair dresser they always mess something up. but a couple times i've gone to a girl i loved and i told everyone about it and gave her a few new clients. if u are not hurting on cash, id put a coupon for $5 off your next haircut on the back of your business cards so ur clients go back to you. another thing would try to get the boys you know to let u do there hair.. most guys need a hair cut every 2-3 weeks. tell them to tell there friends about you, and give them ur card.. most guys will come back to you if u cut it right the first time, especially if they have some money off the first time they go to you. another idea would off to go to their house the first time, who wouldnt go with that? Other ideas would be having adds in the paper, maybe having a ladies day or a mens day with a certain % off a hair cut. other ideas is making your salon very inviting. i like it when places off something to drink, and have recent magazines. i also liked in one store they had real pictures of the clients after their new hair cut. pics on magazines are usually vage and have famous hairdressers doing it. another suggestion maybe having walking available if u dont already.. or maybe walkin available for certain times of the day when ur less busy. hoep i helped

You need to give people really, really good haircuts. Even if you only cut a few friends' hairstyles at first, if they get compliments they will send other people your way. You could advertise or give discounts or whatever, but the way to get clients is to have people compliment the people whose hair you cut on their styles. You need to build a relationship with the people whose hair you cut, so they'll say "oh, thank you! I got it done by so-and-so down at blah-blah salon, you should make an appointment!" That's just the way it has to be done.

Think of someone you know that will let you do their hair and they work/see a lot of people. Do their hair and do it well. It'll speak for itself.

Also, one great ad in the yellow pages is worth FAR more than flashy signs and grand openings.
