I've only seen him once, by accident. It bothered me because the whole time he took ideas almost verbatim from "Boundaries" by John Townsend and Henry Cloud and never once gave them credit.

You have to be very careful when it comes to Joel Osteen. A lot of people are blinded by his "good looks" and his charisma, but he is most definitely a teacher that Paul warns Christians about. His message is all about getting things for yourself. He tells people what they want to hear and sidesteps the truth. All people want to hear is that God is a God of love, which he is, but that doesn't mean He's a giant genie in the sky who will be at your beck and call and give you whatever you want. His lifestyle clearly depicts that image, fancy suits, jewelry, expensive cars, etc. His teaching is not biblical. I'm not saying all of those things are horrible, but if God has blessed you with monetary wealth use it for the good of His people and do not store up treasures for yourself on this earth. Guard your heart and mind with the Word of Christ and do not be taken in by Joel Osteen.

I hear that he is a very encouraging speaker. His critics claim that his teaching is unbalanced on the side of grace, that he doesn't preach like Jesus who was full of grace And truth.
My Pastor says that you have to teach the whole counsel of God's word like Jesus did when the adulteress was brought before Him and He told her that He didn't condemn her but to sin no more.
That's what I've heard about Joel anyway. It's not my place to judge him, for as Paul wrote:
1 Corinthians 4:1 This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. 4 I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

He is a wonderful motivational speaker, but I would go no farther than that. I would not call him a preacher, minister, or Holy man. Just a simple motivational speaker with aspirations of being rich. Example: look at his "church."

He has a gift of gab. My wife likes him. I like the joke (he always tells one). He doesn't preach fire and brimstone, end times theology, or make political statements, so fundamentalists will find him boring.

i don't really like his preaching. he always tells his parishoners that everything is hunky-dory and that everything is gonna be alright. i dont think he knows what he's talking about. even the Bible says that not everything is alright. i wouldn't recommend any of my friends to go to his church.
