I know alot of people like to get a good tan, but man those things are dangerous. We get enough sun as it is with global warming and the sun. You can get skin cancer and age faster with a bad enough burn, or too much sun. It's much safer to put on sun screen or spray on or rub on tans I think.

I completely agree that tanning booths [and tanning in general] is unhealthy, but I doubt they will ever be made illegal - unfortunetly. This is a society that smokes cancer-giving cigarettes to look cool and injects food poisoning into their skin to look younger.

Its all quiet ridiculous. But more power to pale people, yeah?

No it should not be illegal. There is no real problem with this. Its very convenient in the winter. Also there should be Trained operators running the bed, they should ask you a series of questions to know how long to put you in for. The only main difference between tanning beds and tanning in the sun, is you get vitamins from the sun (vitamin D and others).

Sunscreen doesnt help you get a tan, it blocks it. But there is a thing called tanning lotion, it gives your skin vitamins, it helps absorb whats good and blocks out whats not.

Usually you get skin cancer only when you get burned often. Say you never wear sunscreen lotion and you go outside everyday and get burned pretty bad twice a month, your chances of getting skin cancer is somewhat high. But if youre out in the sun and get burned maybe twice or three times a year, and wear tanning lotion once a month to get a tan and go outside for under an hour, or be in a tanning bed for 7-11minutes, You should be fine!

Tanning beds emit mostly UVA rays to give you a dark tan that will last long and with little UVB rays given off it is less likely you will burn. BUT, the rays given off by a tanning bed are three times the strength the sun!! Prolonged use of tanning beds destroys skin fibers and damages elasticity, all while causing premature aging and wrinkles. So unless you want to look like you are 50 when you are 30 tanning beds are a bad idea.

i have to say, first global warning does in no way affect your chance of getting skin cancer. plus its a free country. if someone wants to get cancer, go right ahead. thats why cigarettes and chewing tobacco still exist. and you can't limit things cause they cause cancer. that means you would have to limit breathing and living for over 42% of cancers have unknown causes, lots of which are probably heriditary. and by living near a smoke stack factory (about 50 miles) your chances of getting lung cancer increase dramatically. and by sitting in the sun, with sun screen on i might add, drastically increases your chance of getting cancer. so with a plan to cut out cancer in our life, we'll all live in dark room with a exetremly powerful hefa filter and breathe as little as possible. yes, sun tanning booths aren't the best thing, but there is actually no chance of getting cancer, for they do not have the harmful UVB rays, like the sun.

No, people have the right to hurt themselves if they want to. Maybe tanning booths, at the most, should be responsible for posting the risks associated with tanning, but they shouldn't be illegal. Too many rules as it is.

No, Because its a choice. Yes they are harmful. But are cigarettes illegal. No, just to minors. But yes some tanning boothes do require parental permission if you are under 18. But a parent can get cigarettes and alcohol for a minor. So it really wouldnt make a difference

I'm allergic to self tanners - so I cannot use them.

If an adult wants to risk using the tanning booth, that should be up to them, but on a limited basis only. YES, I know all tanning is really bad - but so are lots of other things.

Illegal to have tanning beds? I guess it should be illegal to go outside and get a tan too? It's totally my business if I want to get a tan, or skin cancer for that matter.

Probably... but there's so many other things that can kill you that aren't illegal either. Cigarettes, liquor, fumes from certain chemicals... I mean the list goes on and on.. and with cigarettes and liquor, you choose to use them as well. I think most people know the dangers of tanning beds just like they do cigarettes. I can't lie. I used to smoke and tan. I chose to and knew it was bad. I think it's really up to the consumer to decide what's right for them.

So do I!
I mean they're ridiculous.
I've never been in one and I plan on not ever going in one.
Plus these people that tan in the winter are retarded. It just looks un-natural and its so obvious that its fake. Tans only look good in spring and summer when you know there's at least a possibility that it's real and came from the sun.

i have a membership at Planet Tan (BEST indoor tanning there is) and i only go about 3 X per month. I think it is perfecly safe if you keep it low-key. people who go everyday are CRAZY. They have a lot of info at the desk about indoor tanning and if you follow all of the rules, it's safe for the most part. i'm not stupid and i know that i probably shouldn't be going, but it's my life and for right now, i enjoy feeling good about myself when i have a good tan. plus, i'm from texas and sometimes i just dont want to bake outside.
