From what you say, you've told him how you feel already. Respect his wishes and continue your friendship as just friends. But don't be suprised when later down the line, you have a boyfriend, and your friend starts acting funny. It will all come together with time and patience.

Just talk to him, tell him how you feel. Sit him down and calmly explain to him how you feel and why this cant work out, and if he doesnt wana be friends with you after that, its okay! Someone who likes you that much but refuses to just be friends isnt worth it.
