I fell asleep this afternoon for nearly 3 hours. It was between work shifts. I had from noon until 5 off and woke up at 4. Really didn't feel like cooking so tossed a frozen pizza in the oven. Could barely eat 2 slices (out of 8), then rushed off for a 4 hour shift. I was so tired. Now it is after midnight and I know it will take awhile to get to sleep but at least I don't work until 1pm tomorrow.

Dear Della,

I am thinking it is combination of a few things at work here.
1. Your split shift job is interfering with your normal sleep patterns.
2. You ARE tired in the afternoon, but that amount is too long, you are probably getting into REM sleep, teh deep kind, that should be happening at night.
3. Your diet is kinda convenince oriented? if you seek out healthier food choices, just try adding in some fresh food, less processed foods, nothing radical, you may have more zip. ALso, you may not be eating ENOUGH, have you thought of that? that's how I lost a lot of weight, by eating more...I had slowed my metabolism down....healthy food does not have to be expensive. A fresh apple or peach on sale diced into some oatmeal is CHEAP!! paired with a glass of skim milk, you have an energy meal!

the best time for a nap is supposed to be between 1 and 4 pm. If you take an hour out during this time, it's supposed to keep your brain sharper than if you just sleep your regular 6-8 hours a night.
