Try buying a different brand. I've found one brand in my area that's always still good for up to a week after the expiry date and another brand that usually sours at least 2 days before the expiry date.

Look At Something Weird, I Live On The Hudson River Of NJ, and For Example Would Say My Milk Would Say Exp. 7/30, In New York 7/25. I Mean What's The Difference Over The River, So I Get Scared Sometimes

are u shopping at the Gourmet Garage? I agree, dairy expires quickly in NYC. I think their refridgeration is poor, most grocery stores buy refridgerators that maybe arent as powerful. Also,
apts have old refridgeratos too. Gourmet Garage is probably the
worst of the lot. I like Whole Foods, Dean & DeLuca, Zabars, Citronella & Food Emporium.

You have to walk it home? It's not like you can load it in your car and get home... you have to tote it home at outdoor temps! In summer, that would bring the milk up to a higher temp which promotes bacetial growth and spoilage.
Bring an insulated bag w/ you for your milk in summer.

Um, there's a blackout in Queens so the temperature in the fridges is higher because the electric isn't there to keep it cool
