I know dogs throughout their life will nap and lounge around, but I am wondering how long I will get my quiet time (haha)... my pups our 4 and 5 months old and they nap quite a bit (more if we have a rambunctious day)... I would say they nap in the morning, afternoon, and evening for 1-2 hours. Is this a lot, or not enough and until how old will they do this? Thank you!!

I don't know if they ever stop napping. I'm a dog breeder and my oldest dog is almost 6 years old and he still naps! They are like a cat - it is in their nature. Think about it, If a dog's one year is equalivent to seven of our years - and 365 days is one year for us and is equal to 2555 days a year for a dog - then every nap is like a night's sleep for them! Understand now why they sleep so much?

That's normal! Mine are 2, 10, and 13. They all sleep lots. Normal is about 16 hours a day. Remember, they are growing, just like infants, and need lots of sleep! Puppies seem to run, chase and play and then all the sudden just crash asleep. I used to get the biggest kick out of that when Sam was a small puppy. Sounds like you're doing everything right. Just love em and watch them grow!

My dog is over 4 years old and still naps a lot! If they do get more energy as they get older, just spend a good hour or so each day and play with them! Dogs love attention.

They start napping from day one of their life. If they're busy playing and running all day then of course they'll nap more. Don't worry about it. Puppies have tons of energy and if they are taking a nap, they you can guarantee that they're tired.

My puppy sleeps about that much too. The dog I had growing up slept that much throughout her long life (16 years). You don't say what kind of dogs they are. Large breeds tend to sleep more than small breeds.

believe me when i tell you this is normal, most dogs sleep up to 16 hours a day on and off, yours probiblily play alot which is good, relieves alot of energy, the older they get 10-12 months the longer they will sleep, but it will still be about 16 hours all together, dont worry, you will get better quiet time:)
