Like others have said, this is only a temporary, superficial relief. Once the "high" of it wears off, you sink back to the depression with added guilt....it's a downward spiral and if you don't get off of that spiral now it is only going to get worse. To get out of this addiction, you are going to have to deal with the source of your emotional pain and that may require counseling. You also need to find a replacement behavior for the cutting. Like taking a walk, listening to music in the living room (where there are others around and no access to sharps), talking to someone in person or by phone, or even squeezing ice in your hand until you are able to deal with the pain. I also suggest having a parent or friend keep all razors, knives, and any other "tools" that you use to cut locked up or hidden from you to help. Take care of yourself.

I used to cut myself also, seriously it doesn't help and it does make you feel worse the only way I stopped was because somebody saw and turned me in I hated them at the time and now I thank them every chance I get, I used to so it cause I was really stressed about everything my dad was always picking on me and my sister was a total ***** to me so I though maybe nobody cared but come to find out my whole school was worried about me and was glad that I got help now my life is almost better than ever.

It is like any other addiction--the relief is short-lived followed by depression. You need to seek professional help. Unless someone who is a medical professional is monitoring this site, you won't get the answers you ultimately need here. Whether you turn to cutting, drugs, or alcohol, you are only going to get temporary relief from whatever pain you are suffering from--then you have to start again. You need to break the cycle by getting to the bottom of your pain and replacing the unhealthy coping (cutting) with something healthy (medication, therapy, support group, etc.). Please, please, please seek professional help. There may be a toll free number you can call for advice.

cutting releases endorphins, which makes you feel better for a little while but the cutting process makes you feel worse in te long run. you really should tlak to someone, even if its just your best friend. also, try running. running also releases endorphins, but it won't make you feel worse after they fade. next time you feel like hurting yourself, go out and run instead.

You need to seek the help of a therapist who specializes in borderline personality disorder and utilizes dialectic behavior therapy. That is one of the signs of BPD.

Sweetie;
it's because you feel upset and are looking for some how to express you're feelings. but afterwards, you realize what you've done, tell a friend or teacher and get some conseling, they will help you a lot more than you can yourself.

goodluck ;-)

you feel better because you 'think' you have relieved yourself of the pain and distracted your mind from whatever caused you to harm yourself. but then a couple hours later you feel worst than ever because you feel guilty for harming yourself. you should try cutting paper.
