Have them sewn onto a quilt, then display the quilt on his bedroom wall. (the quilt can be a store bought --look for solid prints and you can use that "liquid sew" solution, or sew them on yourself) .
Or just make several BIG Throw Pillows.

Get an old window frame at the junk yard etc. Put cork-board inside, and cover with a fabric that looks like swimming regatta colors. Pin the ribbons up!

I was on a swimteam since I was eight years old, and put all of my ribbons into photo albums with my favorite ones on the cover. Each year has its own album (depends on how much your kids compete). By the way, thank you very much for your advice on Maryland... it was just what I needed to get things started.

Make a shadow box display. You can decorate it with swim fins, snorkle or anything that goes with swimming then just add ribbons.

Frame them up, in one large frame. Use a frame with depth as opposed to flattening down the ribbons. Choose frame design to suit the room you intend to hang it in. If in the kids' rooms, i suggest using a cheerful colour for the frame.
