i'm confused i want to know where i stand with this guy.....i'm not experienced with dating so i do get confused....

the best person to answer this question is the one using the terms "talking" or "Messing around."
Communication is a very important part of adult relationships. They can't be left to hints and suggestive statements. Ask your friend what he means. let him know that you want to be clear with him, and that you want the same from him.
"Messing around," and "talking" can mean many differant things to people, both terms can even be used as an excuse by the dishonorable to insinuate things have happened with someone without actually lying about it.
ie he says to his friends with a wink and a nudge "Yeah we're talking. nothing serious, but you know, we're messing around." to you he can still say "Nah baby, I never said we were doing nothing. All I said was we was talking. I even said we wasn't doing nothing serious just messing around." And he can look you in the eye with that lie cause he can tell it with a clear conscience.

It is vital you do not confuse these two phrases. TALKING is when you say some thing to him, then he says something to you , then you say something to him....and so on.
MESSING AROUND, however is a lot different. Typically, your first clue this has begun is there is no longer much talking going on. There is a lot of kissing, touching and so on.

Get out and find another guy. This dude sounds like he just wants open oppitions. So if he starts messing with a few other people then he is not in the wrong because he is not committed to you.

Is he telling people that you are just "talking and messing around"? because honey that is not a good thing. How far have you gone with him? Because "messing around" in my book is going further than just "talking" or kissing.....it is more like exploring sexuality, if you get my drift, but yet not quite having sex yet. Girl, be on your guard! This guy may be just using you to try to get more out of you (ie: sex!!!!). If he really cared about you.....and has gone to the "messing around" stage.....he wouldn't be saying that he is "talking or messing around with you" ....hed' be saying something else.....he'd be calling you his girlfriend. I would say if he is starting these rumors about you (even if they are true or not)......get rid of him fast!! You don't need a guy disrespecting you like that!

XXXXXXXXXXX sounds like he wants a friend with benifits. Don't do anything with this guy unless you feel there is a future with the two of you, otherwise he is playing you. Kick him to the curb if he keeps on being so vague about your relationship. Talking and messing around is not a proper thing to do with a lady. I know you have more respect for yourself. "Talking" means he's interested in you and getting to know you...you're probably a potential girlfriend. We're "messsing around" means you guys are hooking up and for the mean time he's not too interested in any commitment; he's into letting his buddies know he's getting some action but you're not his girlfriend.

Talking is when you are thinking about hooking up, but havent yet... although you both like eachother. Messing around is making out or having sex with no relationship.

My impression of those terms would be that the two people are not committed or exclusive...both are open/available to TALK to or MESS AROUND with other people...

usually talking means you're interested in each other and you know kinduh hanging out ..
if you're messing around that could mean like flirting to sex. or it could mean that you guys arent serious. it depends when it's used and how.
