Time is money. The faster they drive, the sooner thay can collect their fare from you and be back on the street looking for their next fare.

Taxi drivers have a business running meters, so I agree time is money. If they can reach their destination safely and in a short period of time, then the client is satisfied. It's risky how they drive, but realize they are trying to make a buck.
