The folder options menu disappeared when I removed this virus from my startup.
You see the virus I am telling you about restarts my computer everytimr I attempt to open the command from windows or msconfig or open the folder option
But I was able to remove it by opening in safemode and removing it from my startup...but the consequence was that I lost the 'folder options' from my tools menu

the name of the virus is brontok.
it effects system's winlogon file and hides tools menu..
also it will restart pc if you open msconfig, registry editor or dos..

i would recomend to download new definitions for your anti-virus

or download its remover from

I think Folder options only appears if you open up a folder using Windows Explorer. If you are on the internet, folder option does not appear. Try going to My Computer and check again.

If that did not help, try this:

--Click Control Panel,
--If you are on Category view, click Appearance and Themes
--If you are on Classic view
--Folder option should be there

Advisory from your additional detail:

If that is the case you may have removed that option from MSCONFIG..try checking them back and then, use an ANTIVIRUS to remove the program that keeps on bugging you. I have a feeling its not a virus but a SPYWARE, anyway try this free programs.

Get morpheus(p2p from download.com),..and get mc afee virus scan version 10 - no doubt it's slow but pc mag rates it no.1 ahead of norton. offline anti virus

2. I'd advice you to try panda active scan - it's online and completely free....which should eliminate all the viruses in your pc...online. this you can do 1 st. then get mcafee virus scan from the procedure i told you.

next time better include the virus name..there are nearly 10-15 viruses with the same symptoms you mentioned, and each of them has 10 sub variants.

adn yes, internet explorer is history. Go for firefox which is the best browser in the market ( most browser hijacks, viruses target ie then why shld you be using it)

as soon as the virus is out you shld have a working pc in order ...you pc no doubt is not well protected, cos my pc never had a virus in more than 10 mnths easily...and when it did the last time i booted it again from startup.

Can you find your folder options in your "Control Panel"?

They led to the same directory either way. :)

Oh. Have you tried system restore?
If still can't, try searching in this website http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and look for tweaks to bring back your folder option. It's at no.129. Restore Folder Options Under Tools and more are below. Try them to see if it works. Gd luck!
