I think the best way would be to lead by example. The famous saying, "Do unto others as you would have done to you."

If you show them love by helping them during a needy time then they in turn might be more thoughtful.

This is something that I struggle with. I really want to help others because that is what makes me feel good. But I sometimes lack in thinking of others. I want to be more willing to do things just because.

It can be a problem when the person you are helping doesn't realize that they are taking you for granted. I know from first hand experience. Me and my husband let our brother move in with us so he could get back up on his feet. Well, to make a long story short and after a lot of his borrowing money from us, we are behind financially.

You just have to set the person down and explain in no uncertain terms what is happening and if they continue to be ungrateful for your help, then cut the strings. It's called tough love but sometimes you have to do it.

Then according to Jesus, you are just like the Pharisee.

He said that if we just love the ones who love us, what is that? Even the Pharisee does that. But we are to love those who hate us, help those who despise us.

If you are unable to discern the lesson taught in this, perhaps that is where you need to seek. Your selfishness needs to get out of the way.

This is a hard question to answer without more details. Remember that when you help anyone else, its a service unto God, but you can certainly point out your concerns to them.

You help them -- for them, with love and understanding.

Be the light that shows the way.

You would have to be much more specific.

"Enabling" people is not being helpful. Continually rescuing a person from his own folly is wasted effort.

I feel the same way. I try to imagine what Jesus would do in my place.
