Women are caretakers of dogs more often than men. In a family it is almost always the mom that feeds the dog and takes care of its health. In dog shelters, the vast majority of workers and volunteers are women; same for dog shows and training. Why? I have no idea. Maybe because women are born nurturers (note: I know a number of men who are excellent, caring dog owners).
Another idea for Y!A specifically is that there are a lot of adolescent/teen users and there is the ridiculous trend right now among young girls to carry small dogs in a purse and treat them like they are dolls. This would up the proportion of female users in the dog category. Animal cruelty if you ask me.

If you go to any dog show you will see it tends to be more dominated by females than males (lol I almost just said by bitches than dogs! lol too much time spent around dog show people I think!)(Hope people know what I meant by that---female dogs are called bitches, males are called dogs) Anyway it's starting to change and more men are coming into the sport but a lot of guys are stupid like I used to be and hate dogs. Now that I know better I can't wait to start showing and being more involved in the world of dogs.

Most women tend to take more to anminals then men do. Men are not sensitive ect... While women have the nutruting caring protective side to him.
