Pillows that are NOT down, feathers, or so soft that when he lays down his head, the sides of the pillow fold around his face. A medium to firm dense foam pillow is the best. I make them all the time for children. I started making them because the only pillows I could find on the market for children were either just for decoration or they were not safe to use.

Why does it have to be a pillow? If the child is real young, buy it a small stuffed animal and let the child put their arm around it, for security. Under two years old, I would not suggest a pillow at all, the child could suffocate.

until he/she's two, no pillow at all, after two, get a little travel pillow and a kiddie travel pillowcase for the kiddo (walmart, target, bed bath & beyond to name a few...) but don't be surprised if they don't actually sleep on the pillow until 6-12 months from the time u first put it in the bed! :)
the point isn't that the pillow is small, but that it's thin, since their shoulder-to-neck measurement is so much smaller than ours, so if you have an old pillow that is pretty much flattened but still clean, use that!
i've done both ways with both kids

I like yourself wanted to find a Safe/Toddler Pillow. But I haven't found one. Yes, I found small pillows that were almost like throw pillows however I just decided that it wouldn't be comfortable for my son since who would want to sleep with a small ole throw pillow type.
I just went out to the store and purchase a pillow with Spongebob on on the pillow. This was the actual pillow. I purchased it thought it would be fun for my son. I do have to say my son never really sees the spongebob pics on the pillow since I put a regular ole pillow case on it. (which also happens to be spongebob). So....Just go out and purchase your child a regular pillow that you would use. and let him/her sleep with it comfortably!!
Best of LUck!!

I would suggest a flat pillow that is abit smaller then adult pillows. I have alot of children using all kinds of pillows at my work and low smaller ones seem to be better and offer best support. Any chain store would have them or you could make your own using fleece and cotton filling...just cut two fabric squares of same size around the edges to make fringe...tie the fringe of piece 1 to the fringes of piece, leaving room for stuffing cotton in..then add cotton filling and finish with the ties...sweet dreams ;)

Go to Walmart. I purchased one for my 2 year old last week. It's a travel pillow that can be used in the car and then to the place where they travel. I paid around $7. They come in purple, green and turqouise. My son loves it! It's the perfect size for him.

I just get the little travel size pillows, and make a cool pillow case for it- whatever their theme is in the room. I'm sure you can find it at Wal-Mart.

We use a nice Barley filled pillow, with lavender in it. Has a natural cotton ticking and is travel sized. It gives nicely with him. It all natural NO manmade fibers to smother, plus the barley moves around so very little chance of smothering. We have had absolutely no problems with it and the lavender helps him sleep, its soothing. And best of all no chemicals!

My son's been using a regular pillow since around his first birthday.
Know how if you pinch a sleeping person's nose shut they'll wake up? The same, I think, could apply here.
