When I was in grade school, many, many years ago, there was a boy in my class that wore the same sneakers every day. Half way through the year, the sole of one of his sneakers had come half off and so when he would walk it would flap and make a noise. Some of the boys in our class would make fun of him because of it. I knew that his mother, who had a mental disorder, could not afford to buy him shoes and so I had my dad take me to a department store and I bought a pair of sneakers and put them on the porch of his house when he and his mom were gone. (They only lived right up the road from me). To this day, noone, including him knows that I did it. (Well, Yahoo Answers knows!) But it sure was nice to see him come to school the following day in a brand new pair of shoes and no one making fun of him.

And I do not recount this story for bragging reasons, but I think we should all do stuff like that for people who are in situations that maybe less fortunate than our own. The smallest things can have such an impact on someone and their lives.

I did a stint as an in-store photographer for a summer once when I was younger. While I was in a little country town, a lady brought in her handicapped son to get his photo taken. I didn't think anything of it at the time. I just went through my routine, which was to get kids to have as much fun as possible while being photographed. Alot of times, the photographer will try too hard to get the perfect pose with all of the right lighting, etc.etc. Not me! I had a great frog puppet I would use for kids, and I would pretend to be attacked by this thing while setting them up for the pic. (He had a tongue that would snap out when you squeezed his head.) When you are in the zone, you are having just as much fun as the kid!
Anyways, this kid was just like any other kid. We both got to laughing, and I got some great pics at the same time. When I was through, I noticed the mother was in tears. I was horrified because I thought I had done something wrong, or had overstepped some social boundary with the puppet thing. That wasn't the case though. She told me that this was the first time she had seen her son laugh in a very long time and that she would have paid double the price if she had known she would get to see him just enjoy himself like that. Needless to say, I made pretty sure that the pics came out perfect and that there were no problems with delivery! I left that town with a very good feeling in my heart.

Well we all do nice things to people we love (I suppose loving means caring and hence going any lengths for them). But sometimes we do things out of our duty, that's when I feel it is really nice. Like all the things people mentioning here.

About me I have helped several of my friends out of depression, when they were rejected, without bothering about my own careeer. I have let my friends borrow my nicest dresses, so that they can go on a nice date. I have helped my sister cope up when she was lonely and away from home.

I have taken care of my in laws (though they don't like me, and me being nice to my family) when my husband was away for work. Yes taking care of my in laws while they hate me and my family, and try to parent my daughter and prove I am not a good mother, is the nicest thing I think I am doing, but all for my husband....

1/helped a friend going through his break up

2/ went to a friend's goodbye party for the sake of giving her her last happy day. I did not want to (cuz...we weren't close anyway)I had plans but i canceled them all (for the sake of being a good friend). Worse I knew no one in that ******** party. The whole night I did nothing. They were drinking and smoking pot, and bcuz they didn't know me they didn't let me any. ******** ******, at least she could have said "Hey bring some money, or prepare something". I was about to leave, but she said "Hey stay! I'm leaving tomorrow".

I hate her so much. Selfish ******. Hey at least I did what I was supposed to do.

Well even SHE smoked and drank but DIDN'T give me any!!!!! I hate it so much. She juz used me there to show off how many friends she'd got!!!

there was this kid in my neighborhood that dident have a nice bike to ride. He was always trying to pice together old parts trying to put one together. I guss his parent's dident have the money to get him one but that dident stop him from trying. I watched him almost every day and really admired his determination, watching all the other kids rideing there bikes and I really felt bad for him. So anyway I was at the flee-market one day and spotted this beutiful yellow BMX bike and then it dawned on me, Im going to buy this bike for this kid. I took it home, made sure everything worked on it and gave it to him. I'll never forget the look on his face, It was one of joy and confusion and he was so happy and so was I. All his hard work paid off and he was rideing in no-time. I have a feeling that he is going places in life because dispite all he went through he never gave up and he certinly deserved it, and at the same time he taught me a lesson that in order to get something out of life, you must work for it.

I've done a lot of nice things for people over the years. But if you want to know what the "best nice thing" I've ever done for people is, then it would be that I told them about Jesus and invited them to church.
