Alaskan Klee Kai. They look like little mini Huskies. They are not AKC recognized, but they're cute little buggers. And good conversation starters.

There's no reason you should be afraid of dogs! I've had pets all my life: dogs, cats, tarantulas, squirrels, snakes, hamsters, fish, etc, etc, etc.

Dogs make each day worth waking up to! They're like having a child, so make sure you have enough time to dedicate to one.

Are you looking for a dog with a lot of energy? Most small ones do. Visit www.atts.org They have temperament test resuts for all breeds. If you are afraid of dogs, pick one that scored well.

The best thing to do is go to a local animal shelter and pick out a companion there. Anyone on the internet can recommend breed after breed after breed. Pets can be long commitments. You need a dog whose personality will mesh well with yours.

The best thing you can probably do is just visit a shelter and see how they act. Good luck!

For most people who are afraid of big dogs, active and hyper dogs scare them too. I suggest getting a quiet, companion dog. Dachsunds, Pomeranians, Toy Poodles are small and mostly quiet...kinda nervous though. Jack Russel Terriers are hyper, but are very smart and great freinds. Yahoo has a dog breed picker that can help you out, as well as the ASPCA. Hope this helps :)

If you are scared of dogs, to go a friend or family members house to get more exposure to them before you buy. A dog is a major commitment and its so sad to see one end up in a shelter.

If you're sure you're read to take in a puppy consider something that won't need a lot of health care or be difficult to care for
*Toy or Minature Poodle
*Poodle Mix
*Yorkie
*Maltese
*Mini Pin
*Boston Terrier
*Dachshund
*Beagle
The list goes on and on and on, plus a mixed/hybrid breed can have great qualities and tend to be healthier than a pure bred dog

Go to www.dogbreedinfo.com and take the "Breed Selector Quiz", it takes everything you want in a dog and finds the breed for you!!!

Do lots of research to make sure you get the right breed for you. You should also know that small dogs have a tendency to be very hyper and like to chew on things. As long as you do your research you should be fine.

Italian Greyhounds would be perfect. Although they are quite energetic, they have some great qualities about them. One, they do not bark very often, at all. Two, they are extremely devoted to their people. And finally, they are quite loving and gentle. Although they are only about 12 inches tall, they can jump to your chest level. I suggest teaching them young not to jump. Italian greyhounds have very short, fine hair and have little to no smell.

They are not good dogs to have around small children because their legs are weak and brittle until they are about 18 months old.
