They have it pretty easy right now - they pay no money and cross over without a trace, pay no taxes, and can disappear amongst the population.
Seriously, I think you have something here. The only question I have on it is how do you track them? The only way fingerprints would do anything would be if they committed a crime.
Maybe they would have to have an American citizen that is willing to "sponsor" them - someone that is legally living in the US with residence and employment. Then if the immigrant stops checking in, immigration can go to the sponsor and find out what's up. If they don't know, then they are held responsible for them.
Just an elaboration on a very good idea. . .

The only problem I see with that is the 1-3 grand they need.If they are that desperate they wouldn't have the money to come legally. This country needs to find a way for them to come legally without all that money.Maybe the country that they are leaving should foot some of the bill.Just a thought.

I'm all for it as long as they do it legally and contribute to society and abide by our laws instead of being societal parasites on Welfare/public assistance. The United States is not an international 401K or a charity. We who live in the United States should recognize that we are lucky and privileged. We should respect and protect the privileges we are afforded.

No. Before 1965 we had quotas--only so many from whatever country was allowed to immigrate here. We should toss illegals out and go back to the quotas. As jobs increase, so can quotas.
It doesn't do this country any good when we're outsourcing jobs and letting foreigners take what jobs are left.

It's an interesting idea, but how would we employ all these legal immigrants? Most of the jobs that these legal immigrants would take are already taken by people who get paid a lot less than the legal immigrants would have to be paid. Taxes would have to be withheld, etc., and benefits offered.

What's easier than driving here in a truck? Or sneaking across the border at night? That's how illegals do it now..it's free, and they don't have to pay any taxes..and when they get caught..the US does nothing about it. Who would want to change that?

We should only allow the best and brightest to come into this country.
Would you go out on a date with an ugly person or would you discriminate?

Finally, someone is trying to come up with a solution.
I say, we make Mexico a more desireable place to live.
That seems even more humane.

I think it would be better to allow anyone to come to the US provided that they do 5 years in the military fighting the war in the Middle East.
I bet they would stop coming........
