Living in montréal my self, i would say montréal is much 'english speaking' especially west of st-laurent street (main street) but yet, it is not only french or english. lots of communities live in montréal as well. regions close to the united states and ontario have higher rates of anglophones than more central regions. south of montréal, there are a lot of 'english villages' howick, huntington etc. The eastern townships (cantons de l'est) had received loyalists from the united states back in the days, thus increasing english speaking population.

but usually, young people all over québec speak more or less english. unlike what people think a lot of them are fluent in english with an accent similar to the 'boston accent'

well, hope this answers your question.

I would assume around Montreal. I visited Montreal for a week about two years ago, and I had absolutely no problems finding English speakers. Generally in stores and things I was approached in French, but I simply said (in French), "I'm sorry, I don't speak French, do you speak English?" and everyone always began speaking to me in English; no problem whatsoever. I have a French-speaking friend who has just moved to Quebec (the city), and her non-French-speaking husband is definitely going to have to learn French to find his way around and get a job!

Number one would be my parents' place, and then in concentric circles out from there.

West Island of Montreal, especially south of the 20 (highway to Toronto)--west of St Charles Road anywhere south of Pierrefonds Boulevard. Also Westmount, and Cote-St-Luc.

Off the island, I'd say near the U.S. border (Hemmingford, Ormstown) but I'm not sure. Eastern Townships (Sherbrooke) and near Ontario a bit too.

Hull, a lot of people work in Ottawa but live in Hull because the taxes are lower, housing is cheaper, the booze is better, and the bars stay open later at night. Most of them are snivel servants
