I don't recommend any home coloring kits. You want to use professional product. Home coloring kits are unstable. You do not know how long the stuff has been sitting on the shelf. and how many temperature changes it has gone through. I get people in my store all the time complaining that they used a at home color and it turned some awful shade of green, purple, orange etc. And then come into my store and want us to give them a miracle. If you cannot go to a professional because it is to pricey. Then try one of the Cosmetology schools. They are really inexpensive and they are supervised through the whole process. If that is not possible I seriously recommend a beauty supply store Such as Sally's. The products are the same used in the salon and since stylists work there can give the best advice what you should use on your hair. And it cost about the same as an at home color.

All at home brands should be avoided - and really shouldn't be on the market. How much do you really love your hair? If you get an at home treatment, mess it up and then go into a salon - they will probably not be able to fix it to your satisfaction and you'll end up very disappointed. I really recommend the salon brands along with the whole 9 yards of salon products to go along with it. Natural based products like Aveeda are most gentle on your hair and will not totally strip it or damage it when used with the proper products. I don't recommend the at home jobs- it's too easy to botch it up and you almost always feel like you damaged your hair in the end and it's just not as manageable afterwards. I also would recommend going a shade darker rather than lighter regardless of the brand because then you are putting color into the hair shaft instead of removing it - which helps to strengthen the hair. Especially if you're going from brown or black to rock star blonde - you're really going to be sorry with an at home treatment - because your hair will turn BRIGHT red before it ever goes blonde. Then you have to add more chemicals to tone it down and so forth. See an experienced colorist - it's worth it - I especially love Mario Tricocci's if you have that salon near you - they can work with anyone's hair and they are willing to help you do what you prefer with it rather than just being scissor crazy and wanting everyone to wear it short.

You don't want to use Nice and Easy. I read something about it that said it leaves a thick residue on your hair and it dries it really bad.
