It's drunk driving and it is serious. He must have gotten caught a few times in order to get jail time and a felony. My sister got arrested for drunk driving, went home that night and just had to pay a lot of fines and put a Breathalyzer in her car for a few months.
Felonies are very very serious...you have to list them on job applications and will come up on background checks for the rest of his life.

Yes, this is serious. DUI stands for Driving Under the Influence (of alcohol or some other mind-altering substance) and a felony crime (which often results in jail time, especially if it is not your first offense) is much more serious than a misdemeanor crime (which as a first offense is unlikely to involve jail time). If someone is convicted of a felony DUI, depending upon the state, punishment can be months or even years in jail and definitely will result in removal of your driver's license for a period of time. Your brother needs a lawyer as soon as possible.

If you're in the state of WI, it is being caught the second time or more. Usually, the second time, the felony charge goes on your record, you spend some time (not long enough) in jail, and pay a hefty fine. If your brother is spending a significant amount of time in jail, that is because he was caught multiple times for DUI (driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol). Maybe he should get some help when/if he gets out.
A "felony" conviction means that it will follow him around for the rest of his life, and anytime he completes a job application, he will have to admit to being a known felon. It's not a plesant thing to have on your record for life. . .

Any felony is serious but usually a DUI is a misdemeanor unless he was involved in committing a crome while driving intoxicated. Was he inolved in a accient-like he caused and was either someone seriously hurt or killed or that would explain why clssified as felony. Does he have a attorney-for if can't afford the court has to assign him one but since they have so many, many clients if anyone can afford best to hire one just for him. This can affect his entire future life for if conviced will have a reacord which will limit his job possibilities. Hope it turns out ok. All you can do is to keep on loving him and caring .Just by asking you show your love for your brother. You can also pray that God takes care of you and your brother.

In Mississippi, a felony DUI is one that follows after you have 2 other DUI convictions in a 5 year period. It carries a possible 5 year prison sentence.

DUI is driving under the influence, drunk.
Felony is the most serious of crimes.
a. Misdemeanor offenses are tried in county court; the maximum number of jurors you may have is 6. If convicted, the court's maximum sentencing jurisdiction is 2 years county jail and $5,000 fine. If granted probation, other conditions reasonably related to rehabilitation may be imposed; usually domestic violence classes or therapy, or anger management classes.
b. Felony offenses are tried in district court; the maximum number of jurors you may have is 12. District court has no per se jurisdictional limitation on prison term or fine as exists for county court. District court limitations in felony sentencing are set by the statute of the offense convicted or the class of felony convicted and the sentencing statutes. Felony classes range from F-1 being the most serious to F-6 being the least serious. Incarceration is to the Colorado Department of Corrections (prison - penitentiary). If granted probation, other conditions reasonably related to rehabilitation may be imposed; usually domestic violence classes or therapy, or anger management classes. Supervised probation is more likely in felony cases than misdemeanor.

It is Driving under teh Influence, and what will make it more or less serious is how many prior times he has been found guilty of this before.
Also will depend on the beleifs of the judge he gets, some are more serious on it than others. ( right now is election time on alot of judges and many look at getting tough)
Depends on your state, several thousand dollars in fine, and/or seveal years in jail could be the case. Alot of people with an attorney on thier first time, get off with probation and loosing thier drivers licence.
