They have different levels for different skill levels, ages arn't really important, just their skill level. The sooner you get your child enrolled in lessons, the quicker they will advance and become great swimmers. I feel that swimming should be a basic skill, learned by everyone.

I used to teach swimming lessons in the baby pool for the little ones. I remember a couple one year olds all the way through 5 year olds. So it really just depends on how your child takes to the water! But they are never too young to experience the water.

I wanted to start my daughter as soon as possible and the pediatrician said it would be okay as early as 3 months provided the pool was used for that purpose and, obviously, the teachers were prepared to teach babies. At the time, the places we looked at around home only accepted babies with at least 6 months and she started at that age. She had excellent coordination development and when she was about 1 1/2 theses classes payed off. She fell into the pool for about 30 seconds and when we pulled her out, she hadn't even swallowed water because she knew how to hold her breath and wasn't startled either.

So, as far as I can tell, three months is the right age to start, but do NOT do it yourself, because this requires a very specialized training. If you want to use it to bond with your child, there are some classes in which the parent goes in the pool with the child (I'm a dad and we did this for about a month when she was around one year old, and it was so good).

You can take your child can start swimming at an early age however make sure the water is warm. For lessons you should check with local facilities to see what age groups they have classes for. They vary from area to area.

I have two children and they both learned from their daddy at the ages of 3 and 5. And did not go to swim lessons. This was a time for him to bond with his daughters and they are both great swimmers.

My 3 1/2 year old wanted no part of the water last year (when she was 2) and refused to get in the pool for lessons. She was happy in the kiddie pool (6 inches of water). This year,I can't keep her out. We just wrapped up lessons and she couldn't get enough of it. A relative went out and bought her a kickboard similar to the one used in lessons. When the weather finally clears up, I'm sure she'll be happy to use it in our pool.

So I would say approximately 3 yrs old is good. They comprehend more and It's easier (sometimes) to reason with them.

I think you can take them when they are a year old I need to get my daughter in swimming lessons I love taking her to the beach but since I don't know how to swim I really want her to. I think they take them early for getting used to the water.

My four year old daughter is taking lessons and she is doing well. I think it all depends on the child. It is always good to get a child used to water first.
