You better act quickly .. time is of the essence. First of all, you should notify the health department in your city/county. You should also take him to the doctor or ER to determine the risk of rabies. What was the behavior of the raccoon? Did it behave strangely, walking peculiarly or being abnormally agressive? Was it running around in the daytime (raccoons are normally nocturnal)? these are all signs of a rabid raccoon. Raccoons are actually the #1 carrier of rabies. Were you able to kill the raccoon? It would help if you have the body for testing. Did the bite break the skin? All the rabies virus has to do is enter the bloodstream somehow-- from the raccoon's saliva. Symptoms can start soon, within days, with headache, fever. etc. can you find these on the internet. Sometimes the virus can lie latent in an individual for up to two years. The best thing is to take your boyfriend to ER for checking it out, and determine if he needs the rabies shots. In this area, the rabies shots are paid for by the Dept. of Health.

I studied rabies in the 7th grade! Yes he can infect you if he actually recieved rabies from the raccoon. If you and him swap blood, or saliva in anyway then there's a possibilty that you could get rabies from him. Make sure he gets the rabies shots if he has it. It takes about 2-3 weeks for rabies to set in and start attacking his body before he'll end up dead.

I just received the Rabies Series of Shots....Rabies can incubate in a matter of 5 days but that is rare. Tell him to go to the Hospital, Rabies is FATAL, Raccoons are one of the biggest carriers, If symptoms occur it is to late to get treatment, it is almost 100% fatal. It's carried in saliva and blood, He will need to get on an antibiotic, probably a tetanus shot. and he will have a series of shots over a period of about a month. They will tell him it is painful, but for me it was not all that painful. Get Treated, don't blow it off. Force him to go to the hospital......
Good Luck.........

Your boyfriend needs to go to the hospital especially if the bite broke the skin. Raccoons are known to carry rabies. This is a life and death question as if he does not go and get proper treatment and does get rabies it could kill him. And yes, if he does get rabies he could infect you. Not by looking at you but by swapping saliva or blood. He needs to go to the hospital and get treated right away.

He has already given you rabies, more than likely. Rabies can be spread to women by any physical contact with the infected subject. There is no incubation period for rabies.

He should see a doctor right away. Your main concern right now should be him. Rabies can kill him. If they can't track down the raccoon that bit him, he needs to start treatment.

Not until he bites you. Whenever an animal is quarantined for rabies, it's usually like 2 weeks. So probably takes at least that long for symptoms to show.

i dunno about an icubation period but the only way you can get it from him is if you exchange bodily fluids or he bits you. i would recomend he gets treated A.S.A.P. b/c if he does have rabies once he has had it for a short time there is nothing that can be done. he needs to get the shots right away

Yes, you should go to your doctor and get checked out and urge him to go to. Rabies are very contagious.

Get him to a hospital as quickly as you can -- rabies reacts very differently for humans than it does for animals. Transmission between humans is very difficult, but he needs the immunization to make sure that he doesn't become ill.
