With the hot temperatures of the summer months, it is extremely important to prevent your dog from overheating. Dogs cannot tell you when their temperature rises and it is our responsibility to ensure that they have sufficient shelter from the sun, adequate water to drink, and a way to cool off when the summer sun rises

As long as it shade and plenty of water! And by shade, I mean an adequate place for it keep to cool. I believe dog houses are sold that are supposed to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Also, there could be a kiddie pool for the dog, or the sprinklers can be turned on for a few minutes.

Also, the breed of the dog should be taken into consideration. If it's a husky, or other furry dog suited for a colder climate, then it should be inside where it's cool. If the dog can't handle the heat outside, then it should definitely be inside!

I wouldn't chance that. Would you want to sit outside all day in that heat w/ a fur coat? I think not. Many dogs overheat very easily. If the dog had to be outside, I would make sure there is sufficient shelter/shade and I would put up some kind of drip system or maybe a kid pool so they can cool off.

As a veterinarian in training I am appalled my this question. There is no reason to leave a dog in 120 degree heat. Animals that are kept outside (while I don't agree with the concept of "outside" cats and dogs) should have access to plenty of water, shade, and if temps are THAT high, air conditioning. The dog can overheat from sun poisoning and heat exhaustion which can lead to death. If the dog must be kept outside make sure it can reach the shade and has access to a great deal of clean fresh water,

I've lived in Arizona my whole life, and have always had a dog. When my dog has to be outside I make sure there is a place for shade and plenty of water. I even have a baby pool for my dog. She doesn't mind.

ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!! Would you like to be chained outside in that kind of weather? That is very dangerous. A dog could die of a heat stroke. It's water could evaporate. My grandma had these 2 neighbors who NEVER watered their dogs. It only got in the 90s, yet they were in horrible condition. I complained to the authorities every day for a couple weeks, yet NOTHING was done. I decided I had to take matters into my own hands. I started feeding and watering all 3 of their outside dogs everyday. Unfortunately I was just visiting and lived 6 hours away. I soon had to go back home. The next time I came in to visit my grandma informed me that all dogs were gone. One dog was discovered buried in the ground, a dirt-encrusted collar around a skeleton, and the dog still attached to its chain.

The temp only reached in the 90s, like I said, and those dogs were so hot. Please don't keep your dogs in that weather. If you know someone who is, report them immediately!!!

I see alot of no's here, but if you use common sense, there should be no problem. Here's a few tips:
Snub nosed dogs like boxers, bulldogs, pugs... don't have well-developed panting mechanisms, therefore should avoid the desert heat.
Heavy coat dogs will tend to overheat while dogs with little or no coat will sunburn.
If the pavement and sidewalks are too hot for your bare feet, they are too hot for your dog's pads.
Here's a link to a dog house heater / AC

I live in Arizona and my two dogs are allowed in the house but they go outside alot. Maybe you could have them be inside in the daytime and out when it is cooler. Hope I helped :)

I don't want to laugh, but i cant help it. That is just mean. and the fact that you're asking means that you leave the poor mutt outside all day. probably tied to a tree, or a fence. with the food 4 feet away, but his chain is only 3 feet long, and he's almost choked his self ten times today. the poor thing is probably looking at you right now. and you are just typing away. im callng the SPCA on you right now. and then I'm going to call bob barker from the price is right, because he would be appalled. tsk tsk.

absolutely NOT.. That is inhumanely cruel. I have a neighbor, though who has his dog outside all the time but he has an outside misting system where the dog can go to and does go to to cool off.
